Thanks so much for the in depth answer to my question Josh! I hope you are right about Bradfield’s profile should be ruled out by the Sox, as he showed almost no power with hot aluminum bats and a possible juiced ball last year. He also had a poor showing in a small sample size with wood on the Cape last summer. Wilken was definitely impressive this spring. I’m surprised he is projected to be a late first rounder or even sandwich round pick. Of the 5 you broke down, I think Troy or Taylor would be solid pick ups, yet I’m still holding out hope for Matt Shaw or Aidan Miller. Thanks for the fantastic coverage all draft season long and congrats on the wedding!
I’ll go to bat for Shirley – I don’t think it’s too early to praise his work. The players he drafted have started better than expected and look like better prospects than when drafted. Shirley’s job is to get the talent in the system and he’s done that. If Colson Montgomery fizzles out, that’s on player development, I would think, not Shirley. Now, I’ll grant that there’s more to learn since the goal is to draft major leaguers. But I don’t think it’s too early to say the results are positive so far – much better than Hostetler.
I’ll also didn’t hate the Crochet pick, considering it was in the COVID draft and paired with Kelley. It was a low-high volatility combo. Crochet may have even worked as a SP if not for the TJS. Kelley’s been a bust but, again, I didn’t hate the idea at the time in a tough year to draft.
Watching a Dodgers AA game (Tulsa, OK), and their RF has hit a HR and had an outfield assist on a laser throw to 2nd. Yusneil Diaz. Yes the season as gotten to the point I’m just doing a Dodger minor league wish list.
