Writing about the White Sox for a 16th season, first here, then at South Side Sox, and now here again. Let’s talk curling.
I wake up to Lance Lynn trade rumors and six hours later he’s starting the game. I swear, this franchise sucks so hard.
yup lol
It would help if teams would decide what they are doing. Like the Angels should stop talking about Ohtani if they are not trading him
And thanks in part to Grifol leaving him in to give up 6 earned runs instead of 2, Lynn will probably be in a Sox uniform next week and after instead of mercifully being somewhere else.
If teams were interested in Lynn before today, how would his having another start almost exactly like a lot of his others this season change things all that much?
Obviously there’s no need to worry about those trade rumors anymore.
White Sox: first in ground ball percentage, and at least that’s something.
Am I the only person shocked that Lynn did not give up a 3 run homer to Bellinger?
Alright, so if the Sox go with the single inning offense today, they really have to capitalize right now
I’m predicting tonight’s lineup is the 2024 opening day lineup
If they really don’t find better options for catcher and second base…
boy I missed yoan’s glove at third
So you think Burger doesn’t make that play?
he probably gets to the ball but i don’t think he gets it to 1B in time
Sox did that super enjoyable thing where they immediately give the lead back. Fun stuff.
I have zero idea what the strike zone is tonight.
That called 3rd strike to Eloy was something else.
Yeah, you beat me to it. That is one of the worst called strikes you’ll ever see.
That was weird. Cost them a run too. Did the teams switch uniforms between innings?
Thanks for the run Cody Bellinger.
I really like the Benintendi-Tim-Robert-Eloy part of the lineup with Tim hitting again.
Edit: Wrong spot for this.
burger at 2B is a great bit, i’ve got to admit. an amusing addendum to this curb your enthusiasm episode of a baseball season
I don’t get all the angst about it. We were told earlier in the season to expect this. Under the circumstances, they may as well try him. This is a team that routinely puts DHs in the outfield.
The angst is about the overall philosophy of playing guys out of position, especially when those guys don’t really hit well enough to justify it. They should stop that.
We don’t know if this is out of position for Burger. Only that it is new. Teams move guys around all the time. They don’t say a guy can only play the position he is drafted for. The problem with the Sox has been playing a guy like Vaughn in the OF when he clearly had no business being there.
It’s out of position for Burger.
Burger was bad at 3B, where he played his entire college and professional career. 2B is most definitely out of position for him.
If Burger is to have any future, it is probably as a bench bat / platoon DH. May as well see if he can at least stand at 2B once in a while to make him more useful on the bench. It really doesn’t seem that controversial. The bigger question is whether he can hit.
I agree with the part about his ultimate future being as a bench bat and platoon DH. He’s almost certainly not going to be a viable long term second baseman, so they should use the remaining games to look at someone who at least has some chance to be. (Lenyn Sosa has a .900 OPS at AAA right now.)
Boy, that was a dreadful call.
Good job by Hahn to acquire a 2B with 22 home runs on July 26th.
it’s still fun to beat the cubs imo
lol
halos have decided to not trade ohtani and instead go buy. we like that!
There goes Stroman’s trade value! How is Hoyer going to explain his best pitcher for trade got his ass kicked by…………wait for it……………………….the White Sox!
negative value immediately
Yoan looking like he could have used more rehab time in the minors
He will be the most overpaid player in baseball in 2024. 24M for him, wow. They will be lucky if he is worth 1/5 of that. He certainly isn’t now, nor was he last year.
White Sox playing the hits tonight:
– Slow hook from Grifol
– Shitty defense from Benintendi
– Zavala continuing to make me question how he maintains a roster spot
If there is any team who will pay the remainder of Lynn’s salary, that may be the best offer Hahn is going to get. Maybe a team like the Rays could get something out of him since they were able to with Diekman. I wouldn’t bet a lot on that repeating with Lynn.
That was a great idea pitching Lynn tonight. Well played Rick, well played.
Seeing how much he was struggling, did he really need to leave him in to give up 4 more earned runs in the 5th? How many bleeping times have we seen this? I mean one of their crappy relievers might do the same, but the game doesn’t matter anyway. Lynn’s trade value does. 6 earned instead of two, just take the guy out after 4.
Oh well, I’d be surprised if they find a team that will simply pay his remaining salary.
Joe Kelly killing his trade value
Is there any player that better symbolizes how much of a useless halfwit Hahn is than Kelly?
Joe Kelly, everyone!
DFA Kelly please
LMAO
The definition of the current Sox, Lynn, and Kelly. Real close to turning this POS off.
oh my god…this is trainwreck, like what could go wrong is going wrong in every way hahahaha
Kelly walks in the tying and leading runs so of course you bring in Bummer, why should Joe have all the walking fun.

This hasn’t stopped being funny one bit
Not even a little?
The first 25 times I found it annoying. But the most recent 75 I have found funnier for some reason.
Hahn would blow his hand off with the dynamite
Nah, his powder would be all wet.
Give them credit, at 7-2 the Cubs made the Sox work extra hard to give the lead back.
Holy shit Bummer didn’t walk anyone. Quick put him in a glass case until we can get a deal done for him.
It is only the 5th inning? 😶
And the Sox treated it like they were trying to get it in before the rain came.
Just showed HR difference at home not surprising since you get no consistent production from 7 out of 9 positions
Graveman in the seventh against the bottom of the order – maybe the announcers were on to something when they suggested a potential trade partner wanted to see him in action.
Absolutely the all-time low for me as a Sox fan. I’ve never seen it this bad before, not even close. I don’t know where they go from here. I’ll just hope the next wave is the opposite I suppose.
I think Grifol needs to be praised for the culture he has created in such a short time. When faced with the prospect of being traded, these players are showing that they will do whatever it takes to stay in the White Sox organization. That much dedication to a team is rare and should be celebrated.
It’s pretty amazing that Grifol will almost surely manage this team in 2024.
Its ironic that the Sox fired Renteria for not managing pitching well.
And there’s your final and sweep
I had to stop watching and go do stuff when it was 7-2, and I regret only that I had to look at the final score
A tip of the hat to Pedro Grifol for giving the setup to the season’s running joke in his introduction.
After watching this loss, I certainly consider my ass kicked.
Giolito and Lopez to the Angels for Ky Bush and Edgar Queroz, per Passan.
BREAKING: The Los Angeles Angels are finalizing a deal to acquire right-hander Lucas Giolito and right-handed reliever Reynaldo Lopez from the Chicago White Sox for catcher Edgar Quero and left-hander Ky Bush, two top prospects, sources tell ESPN.
Those two continue to be a package deal.
Edgar Quero is a switch-hitting catching prospect who is walking more than striking out at Double-A at age 20. #61 on FG’s top 100
Of course the Sox somehow get all the Cubans.
