Writing about the White Sox for a 16th season, first here, then at South Side Sox, and now here again. Let’s talk curling.
Andrus needs to invest in some sunglasses.
This could have been the rubber game, if the Sox had the capacity to win either (but not both) of the first two games. Alas, what might have been.
Ohhh…day game? That means I have no game to watch tonight. A night pain free.
Did Pham get traded, or is he hurt? #Hugwatch?
This is the first series that I’ve actually watched Pete Alonso. He stinks. It’s what I imagine Ken Patera would look like trying to play first base.
After watching Andrew Vaughn regularly, no other first baseman looks particularly bad to me. (Metrics have Alonso’s defense way, way ahead of Vaughn’s.)
No argument here. I think Vaughn is probably even worse than the metrics would suggest because his physical limitations (height) make him unable to make plays that most first basemen can make (high throws, stretches, etc.).
According to Defensive Runs Saved and Statcast’s Fielding Run Value he’s one of the worst in the game and the worst who plays 1B regularly (aside from Olson, who provides much more value offensively) so I think the metrics are spot on in this case.
But yeah Rick, no way we can trade this dude…
Of course he is in the no trade list. He is hitting at a scorching pace in July: 188/204/208 (!) with zero walks and a healthy 15 Ks in 49 PAs (that is 30% K rate which is significantly higher than his normal rate). I wonder if he ran out of gas like he usually does by the end of a season.
Yeah, so much for the theory that his no longer playing the outfield would resolve his hitting the wall halfway through the season…
Is he hurt? He’s been out of the lineup the last two days, but I didn’t hear anything.
Yeah, he’s sitting due to having fouled a ball off of his foot. In typical Sox fashion, it’s unclear how long they expect him to be out.
Thanks.
So Eloy was just hurt and not Eloy hurt (i.e. out for at least a month)? That’s good; tells you how much I’ve been paying attention though.
Ought we be talking about Remillard?
Looks like he could be a dependable 26th man. He’d be the high floor low ceiling to Romy’s low floor higher ceiling.
He does looks like a decent depth player to have. Better than Romy for sure. You can see in his at bats that he can, at least, battle. He has a much better strike zone control than Romy who hacks at everything.
Also, the concept of “higher ceiling” for a bench player is kinda lost in itself. It is a bench player!!! They should have high floors rather than potential “high ceilings”, right?
Parade back on! It would be really funny to sweep the Twins.
Sure, then they’d lose 2 to the Cubs and 3 of 4 to the Guardians to finish up before the deadline. True contenders, everyone’s jobs are safe!
If they sweep the Twins, and the Tigers get swept, they would still be a game behind the Tigers!
