White Sox Minor Keys: June 8, 2023

White Sox prospect Lenyn Sosa
(Laura Wolff / Charlotte Knights)

If you were wondering why Lenyn Sosa hadn’t appeared in Charlotte box scores all week, Scott Merkin relayed word from the White Sox that Sosa strained his left oblique, and he’ll be out of action for two to three weeks.

At least José Rodríguez was able to soften the blow somewhat, because he returned from the temporarily inactive list and played in his first game of month on Friday. But that’s more zero-sum for general organizational health, and not so much for guys who might theoretically be called upon to supplement the 26-man roster at some point over the next month or two.

Gwinnett 2, Charlotte 1

  • Oscar Colás went 0-for-4.

Chattanooga 4, Birmingham 3

  • Bryan Ramos was 1-for-4 with a K.
  • Alsander Womack, 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
  • Luis Mieses went 2-for-4 with a double and a K.
  • Adam Hackenberg inverted that: 1-for-4 with a double and two strikeouts.
  • Better for Cristian Mena: 6.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 9 K, 2 HR, 60 of 88 pitches for strikes.

Winston-Salem 4, Bowling Green 0

  • DJ Gladney went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
  • Wilfred Veras singled and struck out thrice.
  • Wes Kath singled twice and struck out twice.
  • Jonathan Cannon: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 42 of 73 pitches for strikes.

Kannapolis 7, Lynchburg 3

  • Jacob Burke went 3-for-5.
  • Tyler Schweitzer: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 10 K

  • Ronny Hernandez struck out all three trips.
  • Dario Borrero went 2-for-4 with a strikeout in his stateside debut.

  • Rafael Alvarez walked twice, got plunked once and hit a sac fly.

I’d like to see Rodriguez in AAA, with Sosa out. AA is weird, anyway, with the sticky ball. He’s creeping up on 700 PAs in AA and he’s shown he can handle it. He’s been on a tear recently. Let’s see if that hot streak translates to AAA. Romy has cooled again, so 2B is still a question without a good answer.

Agree with this thought process/

As Cirensica

Oscar Colas just disappeared. What happened?

Last 7 games: 150 / 182 / 200
Last 15 games: 140 / 208 / 163 (!)
Last 30 games: 211 / 265 / 276

That’s some ugly numbers

Matt Verplaetse

Colas had been hitting just about everything for a while, to the point where I thought they might as well give him another shot in MLB. I’m not big on talking about psychology, but I do wonder what it does to a guy in the minors when he sees the big league RF job occupied by a guy who’s not an outfielder (Sheets) and roster spots being taken up by woefully useless players (Hamilton, Marisnick, Frazier, etc).

Augusto Barojas

His power disappeared too. 1 homer this year at AAA compared to 20+ last year. He doesn’t exactly look like a solution to their RF problems for 2024, either. This team is never going to be fixed.
