As Cirensica

Without Arraez, the Twins lineup doesn’t look that threatening.

As Cirensica

Of corse, without Correa too

NDSox12

And Polanco, Kepler, Gallo and Kirilloff. Sox aren’t the only team playing shorthanded right now.

As Cirensica

Kepler is meh, but the other three are key. Polanco particularly can’t stay healthy.

phillyd

What has Kirilloff ever done to be labeled as key?

As Cirensica

Wasn’t he a top prospect?

a-t

Gio touching 96 and punching guys out is a pretty good sign.

As Cirensica

Sheets looks anxious. Like he knows he can hit Gray at ease but pressing and not producing good swings.

phillyd

Does anybody else find Len Kasper’s radio play-by-play lacking? He doesn’t describe the play as it happens instead telling me what happened after the fact.

a-t

Yeah, I’ve never been very enthused about him, I don’t get the hype

Right Size Wrong Shape

He’s okay. Way better than the last guy.

funkerdan

at some point through any season, I get annoyed by all of them and just watch the game while playing some records as the soundtrack.

As Cirensica

sosa needs time to figure out major league pitching. Sonny Gray is just toying with him.

roke1960

In the last two games, the Sox 5-9 hitters are 0-27 with 13 strikeouts. without Timmy, Yoan and Eloy in the lineup, they are really going to struggle. Again, Hahn has provided absolutely no depth to this roster. How does he keep his job?

OldMMJ87

It is amazing how often the game finds the bottom half of the lineup.

a-t

Gavin Sheets in RF is such a debacle

roke1960

Why is Sheets in RF? Did Tony make out this lineup?

As Cirensica

He is giving Colas a day off…. It seems to me that quite often when Pedro gives a regular a day off, the player he chooses as replacement becomes a key player in a defensive miscue that costs us the game or turns to be very costly. Why is Colas getting a day off?

GrinnellSteve

But he’s made up for it with clutch hitting today.

As Cirensica

Are we watching the same game or you are coming from the future?

a-t

I’m sensing some sarcasticalyzing

HallofFrank

They would’ve escaped with no runs, too, if Vaughn didn’t butcher that. Very frustrating inning defensively.

BillyKochFanClub

That was equal parts infuriating and hilarious.

a-t

Really hope farmer’s okay.

a-t

Moncada and Eloy out for a little, Tim out longer, Kelly/Crochet/Hendriks sidelined for the Sox.

But Gallo, Kepler, Correa, Polanco, and Kirilloff sidelined for the Twins, while the Guardians rotation is suffering through the loss of McKenzie and now Civale. No one terribly healthy in the ALC.

roke1960

But the difference is the White Sox have nothing to draw from in the minors. Burger and Sosa are probably the only two players that can help them. And Romy and Andrus look terrible. As we said from the start, they will be good if they can keep Timmy, Eloy, Robert and Yoan healthy. And here we are, in the 13th game, and already 3 of the 4 are out. Hahn is just so pathetically bad at his job. There is NO depth in this organization.

a-t

2 of the 3 injured core guys will be back within a couple days, and our rotation is looking pretty solid after some rough beginnings. The sky’s not falling, though I agree that Andrus/Romy are insufficient at 2B.

On other parts of the roster, Vaughn’s looking like the well-rounded middle of the order presence he was drafted to be, Colas is starting his career pretty respectably, and Grandal’s been healthy & productive. They should certainly make a couple of moves for depth– a low-end starter quality INF and OF each should do it– but the season’s start is not going that terribly.

roke1960

I agree it could be worse, and the last time thru the rotation has been promising. But unless Yoan/Timmy/Eloy/Robert can all play 120 games, they’re going nowhere. They just don’t have anyone that can reasonably replace those 4.

As Cirensica

Eloy has been effectively replaced with the Sheets/Burger hybrid. Although not efficiently from a roster management point of view. I agree we need a healthy Eloy.

roke1960

I have no confidence in Sheets being good. Plus, he’s a butcher in the field, even 1st base. And for that matter, Burger can’t really hit righties. Yes, we need a healthy Eloy back.

FishSox

A 4th OF’r makes more sense than 3 1b/dh’s and 2 utility IF’s.

As Cirensica

Pathetic offense without TA7 and Yoan.

OldMMJ87

The game finds Elvis a lot.

a-t

Andrus’ wRC+ is presently at -13. Not a typo.

GrinnellSteve

I think we can put to rest the Lucas is dead rumors. Paul, on the other hand, IS dead.

You just made me go and check today’s headlines.

a-t

This has been a remarkably injury-filled series. Christ. Hope Buxton and Sosa are both okay too.

a-t

I don’t like getting shut out twice in four games.

As Cirensica

I don’t like losing 3 series in a row. The White Sox haven’t won a series this year yet.

HallofFrank

Looking on the bright side: if you’d asked me 2 days ago if I’d rather win these two but Lynn & Giolito look terrible again or if I’d rather lose both but Lynn & Giolito look good, I think I’d take the latter. But, yeah, it’s been a crummy three days for the Sox.

funkerdan

well, it’s not happening

Rambler303

This team is just too inconsistent to be considered anything but middle of the road.

Such a bummer

roke1960

And their last 3 series have been against SF, Pittsburgh and a injury-depleted Twins team. They haven’t hit the tough part yet.

FishSox

It’ll smooth out once we hit the easy part of the schedule.

dsbatt

Can we DFA Alberto and bring back Leury? It is so amusing that dumping Leury has proven to be a disaster because Alberto is directly responsible for losing TA for 2-4 weeks.

Rambler303

Don’t think that’s the solution, keeping sosa up and using Romy as utility guy is likely the best we can do.

roke1960

Romy is awful.

roke1960

Sosa homering off Duran is a good sign. He needs to be the everyday 2nd baseman going forward.

Hanser “Late Game” Alberto

I am starting to think it was a terrible idea to retain Alberto. Cannot field. Cannot hit. Bench players should be good at something, but the White Sox love players that do a whole lot of nothing at many positions. That’s not good.

roke1960

Well, the guy he replaced was the same way. It’s a Hahn specialty to have a jack-of-all-trades who does nothing well.

StockroomSnail

Jack of no trades.

I don’t need to see a lot more to be on the “Sosa – 2B, Andrus – UTL, Albert – DFA” train once TA comes back.

roke1960

Yes, I think that’s what needs to happen.

a-t

yea I’m on board

FishSox

And demote Sheets for Hamilton or Haseley.

hitlesswonder

Or Burger or Romy

Last edited 1 year ago by hitlesswonder

I’d probably vote Burger, because once Eloy comes back he really serves no purpose on this roster.
