2023 Road Trip: Cincinnati

Event Details

The #108ing Road Trip 2023 edition will visit Cincinnati, Ohio, when the Chicago White Sox faces the Reds on May 5 to 7, 2023. Last year’s event in Minneapolis was a blast, and we look forward to seeing another big group of White Sox fans make the trek. Our friends, Fromthe108, will co-host with us, meeting up on Friday and Saturday’s games.

Single-game tickets for the Reds are currently on sale. The desired section for everyone to sit together in section 108, of course. That’s down the left field line at Great American Ballpark, with tickets ranging from $40 to $42 per person before Ticketmaster fees and taxes. Sox Machine and Fromthe108 crew are sitting in rows BB to GG.

Great American Ballpark Section 108 availability as of 12/30/2022

Things to Consider

Cincinnati will be hosting the Flying Pig Marathon that same weekend. Close to 40,000 participants are expected, with the marathon race held on Sunday. There will be 5K and 10K races for those that enjoy running. More details about registration can be found here: https://flyingpigmarathon.com/

Because of the marathon, booking hotel rooms is a top priority for those interested in attending the road trip. A wide range of hotels is currently available in downtown Cincinnati and across the Ohio River in Kentucky.

3 years ago we went to see our son perform in Newport and to see a game. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Newport. There’s a shuttle system that picked us up right outside the hotel and dropped us off just beyond left field. It was cheap and easy. I don’t know if it’s still being operated, but I assume it is.

My brother is a Reds fan so we made an obligatory trip down there a few years back. Stayed right across the river and it was a nice short walk over to the stadium.

The one thing I do remember is that those smokestacks put off some heat!

Kentuckian here. I’m excited to be at my first meet up! I’m from about an hour from Cincy, and we always park across the river and walk over. It’s an easy walk.

Just across the river on the KY side, I’d highly recommend Smoke Justis. It’s a baseball-themed (ish) smoked meats and bourbon bar. Josh, it may even be an option for a meet up, as they have a nice bar room. https://www.smokejustis.com/

I defer to your greater knowledge as a localish. We went to Hofbrauhaus, a German beer hall in Newport. It was good, and it’s worthy of a baseball weekend.

I say this as someone who almost certainly won’t be going, but we had a good couple of days in the Cincy area.

They built one in the STL area in 2020-ish so I only tried it once before we moved over to Deutschland. Pretty good food and definitely authentic as they hail from Munich

I’m in Lexington, so I’m no expert. But, yea, Hofbrauhaus is a lot of fun if you like German beer. There’s a huge German population in the area.

This place looks awesome.
