White Sox Minor Keys: Sept. 13, 2022

Oscar Colรกs (Jim Margalus / Sox Machine)

And then there were two.

The Winston-Salem Dash and Kannapolis Intimidators wrapped up their seasons on Sunday, leaving only the Birmingham Barons and Charlotte Knights standing. It’s not because they made their leagues’ postseasons — the schedules just happen to be longer. No congratulations are necessary.

Birmingham wraps up their season with six games against Rocket City in Huntsville, while the Charlotte Knights carry on for two more series after this week against Norfolk. First they’ll head down to Jacksonville for six against the Jumbo Shrimp before returning home for three more against Durham before calling it a 2022 season.

Norfolk 12, Charlotte 4

  • Mark Payton went 0-for-2 with two walks and a sac fly.
  • Lenyn Sosa, 1-for-5.
  • Carlos Pรฉrez was 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
  • Adam Haseley went 1-for-4.
  • Yolbert Sรกnchez went 2-for-4.

Birmingham 5, Rocket City 2

  • Luis Mieses went 1-for-5.
  • Bryan Ramos, 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Oscar Colรกs grounded into two double plays, but he also hit his 14th homer and added a single.
  • Yoelqui Cรฉspedes was 0-for-3 with a strikeout and an HBP.
  • Colson Montgomery was 1-for-3 with his second homer and an HBP.
  • Wilfred Veras made it three homers during his 1-for-4 night, striking out once.
  • DJ Gladney also was 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
  • Norge Vera is still having control problems: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 4 K, 29 of 65 pitches for strikes.

Highlights:

*Montgomery turned around a 92-mph fastball from Futures Game participant Ky Bush.

*Colรกs homered off Bush on 89:

*Veras is righty, so it’s not as special.
