I’m a little old to be commenting on 90’s rock but I love the album Girlfriend from the early 90’s by Matthew Sweet who lived in Athens, GA in the 80’s and 90’s. I’ve picked up a few hints during the broadcast that Gordon Beckham has been to Athens.
I think of REM and the B-52’s as 80’s bands. I saw REM play a gym in Champaign and perform at a Rose Records in Chicago with a long-haired Michael Stipe in the early 80’s.
Awesome! I think of REM as both 80’s and 90’s. The B-52s best stuff was definitely in the 70’s and 80’s, but I think they still qualify as relevant in the 90’s. Cosmic Thing was released in ’89, and that’s a great album that I’m sure was still producing singles into 1990.
That was hilarious. With the camera angle, we had to wait so long for Grandal to appear in frame at the bottom of the screen while watching the whole defensive play unfold.
I’ve been thinking of keeping Elvis at short and putting TA at second. Maybe not now, but next year. Might end up with defensive upgrades at both positions.
They were discussing this in the postgame, Ozzie was saying that this is up to TA, as it should be, but Elvis is the much stronger SS defensively and the team would be better with him at SS and TA at 2B. It would be nice if TA agreed to it as we could see what it would look like with him at 2B for next year.
I agree would be interesting to see TA at 2b, would solve a number of problems, and open up the possibility of them getting a plus defensive SS next year.
I don’t think people should be too excited about Elvis though. He is a decent player and certainly doing great, but prior to his stint with the Sox he has not posted an OPS above .700 since 2019 or a WAR over 2 since 2017. So I would not make too much of what he’s doing now.
Report from the ballpark today: Gorgeous Labor Day for baseball. I’ve never seen home fans cheer for a visitor’s home run like they did when they thought Andrus’ drive got caught. Liam loves to unnecessarily mess around with weak hitters he can blow away, all’s well that ends well.
Alright, let’s do this. Twins already lost.
This new Miguel Cairo strategy of “hit home runs” continues to pay dividends.
It’s working…somewhat
Now he should employ the controversial “catch the ball” edict.
Another reason we need to trade Eloy…so many reasons
Nah.
I’m at the game, I got the Pollock home run ball
That’s awesome!
The ball keeps nearly finding Vaughn… I’m so over watching him play Marco Polo with the ball.
imagine playing Abreu in RF. That’s the same as playing Vaughn there, but we have to give the DH to noodle legs Eloy
Abreu can actually track balls. He’d be better, I’m convinced.
sarcasm aside, what switch flipped to turn us into home-run beasts? I realize the timing but that alone cannot explain it. Thoughts?
How much of it is luck? I’d have to look into launch angles and exit velocities and xBA, but we’ve had a lot of good contact that’s just not gone out.
Other than that, I can’t imagined what’s changed.
Cairo must be feeding them Wheaties.
One of the best explanation I’ve read on this
I’m guessing statistical outlier, especially since it doesn’t look like they’re pulling the ball much more, not that I have data on that.
The weather finally started to heat up
Lance figured out a curve
They announce 90’s night, and the first thing that pops into Beckham’s head is Matchbox 20. He is reaching new levels of vanilla.
Maybe he just wants to be the head honcho.
If that’s a Matchbox 20 reference then I’m not going to get it.
Believe me I wish I didn’t get it.
He’s got the pitch arsenal that can be so smooth
I think I’m going to vomit.

Athens and 80s and 90s. No REM reference?
Or B-52’s.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow when Jason and Gordon are a little bit better
If the Sox can come back and win the division, this version of Lance Lynn would look awfully nice with Cease and Cueto.
You could never convince me that Tony being gone didn’t give this team a shot in the arm.
Of course. They’re trying to win it for the skipper, because they love Tony.
Boy, do I love this version of Lance Lynn
24 swing & misses! Sox trying to go 5-1 w/ Andrus at the leadoff spot.
Vintage Lynn is a welcoming sign
Just joined and delurking after 7+ years. At the game by the Sox dugout. An impressive contingent of Sox fans here!
Welcome!
White Sox baseball will provoke you to speak out
There’s gotta be a lot of Chicago people living there. Seattle has a vibe that I think we like.
Definitely does!
Welcome and don’t be shy. We love new commenters
Well, not all of them.
Yeah… I remember that guy, he kept his word! Didn’t see him again.
Yeah, that one was kind of weird. I think he lasted 3 comments and he was gone.
Lynn for the 8th? He doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
Unlike the Nazis at Dunkirk, let this tank keep rolling.
Didn’t one of you guys say that LL looked like Braveheart when the benches cleared? Funny that Gordon just made the same observation.
Good Lord.
Just noticed that Eloy changed his stance. Interesting.
Blew 88 past eloy, that slider causes chaos
Somebody take the plow off Yaz
That was hilarious. With the camera angle, we had to wait so long for Grandal to appear in frame at the bottom of the screen while watching the whole defensive play unfold.
I think Yas might be kind of slow.
Something hit. Not hard. He thinks you can’t beat the throw to first!
Yaz, are you still running to first? Get the hell behind home plate!
Lol Yaz.
Saying Yaz runs like he has a piano on his back would be an offense to anyone actually carrying a piano.
Elvis should man 2nd base when TA returns.
I’ve been thinking of keeping Elvis at short and putting TA at second. Maybe not now, but next year. Might end up with defensive upgrades at both positions.

Correct, Elvis should not be on the radar for next year but he was a nice piece of luck becoming available right when we needed him.
Whew, I thought that was gone off the bat.
Me too.
Lynn saying….”excuse me Cease”
He’s locked in.
Liam Hendriks is having too many implosions lately. That Orioles game still hurting.
Phew
Other than that game (which was more Engel’s fault), what implosion are you referring to?
I meant to say, not easy 1,2,3 innings
Alright, big win!
Still my heart!
Go Royals!
Hah, you beat me by 3 seconds.
Now, go Royals!
Lol got the job done, but he just always insists on making it interesting.
Series opener win!
Another Cairo strategy. Win the openers.
This guy’s methods are downright controversial!
That 9th felt as long as the rest of the game! Small but vocal Sox support behind the visitors bullpen
