A few notes to delay an unimpressive set of box scores:

*Aaron Bummer is set to begin his rehab stint at Charlotte, at least when the conditions allow Charlotte to play. He won’t overlap with Yasmani Grandal, because Granda is expected to be activated today.

*The White Sox sent 2021 sixth-round pick Taylor Broadway to the Boston Red Sox to complete the Jake Diekman trade. The 25-year-old Broadway struck out 74 batters against 14 walks over 49⅓ innings for the Barons this year, but he also gave up 58 hits and eight homers, which is why his ERA sits at 4.74 for the season.

The news was announced shortly after Diekman gave up an RBI double to a lefty Tuesday night. Diekman has allowed 21 baserunners over nine innings with the White Sox, so regardless of Broadway’s prospects, losing him seemed like overkill.

  • Yoelqui Céspedes, DJ Gladney and Wes Kath all went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
  • Adam Hackenberg, 1-for-3 with a strikeout.
  • Jared Kelley gave up all his runs in the first, then settled in: 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 1 HR, 36 of 60 pitches for strikes.

Right Size Wrong Shape

I always thought PTBNL’s were determined in part by performance. Diekman’s performance thus far should have had Boston choosing from the complete non-prospect bucket.

I suspect some people would call Broadway (both of them including Lance) a non-prospect.

Was there an IP/batters faced stipulation that determined the PTBNL? Is that why it was announced right after his appearance?

6K, 0BB for Kelley is encouraging stuff.

Duke Ellis.
All-time name.
