7 pitches..Daniel Norris. Did not think I could ever pine for the 2016 team until now

itaita

At least it will be easier to not feel so bad about the Tatis trade.

upnorthsox

9 games in a row without scoring in the 1st.

Adam

I think this is too easy. My challenge for you is to find the inning that we do score in frequently. I feel like if we go to 9th losing by a bunch, 1 run is going on the board. Other than that….not much.

upnorthsox

It’s an observation not an analysis.

Adam

Ahh boo! Now you’re giving us white sox level effort too.

I did check the yearly splits, the 1st and 2nd innings are noticeably worse than the rest. The best are the 7th and 8th. That makes sense. This is when the starter leaves

Joliet Orange Sox

That’s true for every team. The Sox are a mediocre offensive team (8th in the AL) scoring 4.26 runs per game entering tonight which is slightly above the league average of 4.22 runs per game. The Sox have given up 4.44 runs per game (11th in AL) entering tonight, more than the league average of 4.22. A large portion of both the runs scored and given up have involved relievers.

I think the fact the Sox are slightly better than average in scoring runs and below average in preventing them doesn’t fit one of the common narratives of this season. I think runs given up late by bullpen arms (particularly by arms other than the top arms) for both the Sox and their opponents is the reason the stats don’t reflect our gut feelings about Sox hitting and pitching. I think all these bullpen runs (both ways) are what make TLR’s bullpen management (based on the outmoded idea that a situation cannot be high leverage unless the Sox are ahead late) so infuriating and such a big part of the season story.

I’ve become more interested in what Colas is doing in Birmingham than in what anybody on this roster does.

Augusto Barojas

Colas 2 for 3 so far tonight. No homers, but call him up already! Or at least promote him to AAA and see what he does for a month and change.

bullrun1861

Jose Rodriguez hit a 2-run HR (6th) top of 7th.

bullrun1861

He’s 2 for 3 so far after 6-innings.

soxygen

We might not score today, but there’s no way Norris pitches a no-hitter!

denman

What are the chances Kopeck pitches that no-hitter?

Augusto Barojas

Kopech might throw one, and not get a win.

Nellie Fox

I do like kopeck is attacking the zone, he must have told the pitching coach to not tell him to run his pitch count up.

Nellie Fox

One double with two outs and manager takes him out? Wow,

Adam

I dont remember him starting, which makes his success here even more comical. But if I’m reading right 27 games, 30 innings for the cubs, 3 games, 8 innings for Toledo. He was probably it just at his pitch limit as they stretch him out

abehickock

I wonder if Drake LaRoche is available to stop by and give the Sox offense a pep talk?

Nellie Fox

Anybody, at this point.

As Cirensica

I’m 52 and I think I could throw a blank inning against this team.
#deadoffense

Augusto Barojas

Inning? Give yourself some credit, you might be able to pitch a shutout against this hapless crew.

a-t

The knee issue hobbled him for a minute, but man, this version of Kopech is impossible to not drool over.

Shingos Cheeseburgers

First team to hit four singles in an inning wins!

Shingos Cheeseburgers

It only took three! Don’t let anyone ever underestimate the Sox!

soxygen

We got to see a little of Robert hustling before he hurt himself there

Nellie Fox

F..k Robert has a hangnail and will sit for a couple of games

Adam

One replay showed the hand bend backwards. With this team, it’s a broken finger. Which will be fitting since they are literally giving us their fingers at this point in more ways than one

abehickock

These guys are just a bunch of pampered babies. Who wants to watch this type of baseball. Kopech out of the game after 6 no hit innings and only 85 pitches!!!

ForsterFTOG

Patience. He had TJ surgery 4 years ago.

a-t

This offense is as dead as I have ever seen an offense lol

ForsterFTOG

Since ‘06.
(1906)

Foulkelore

Well, time to reset the, “It’s been X many days since a core player got injured” counter to 0.

Nellie Fox

Wtf? Take kopeck out of the game? Pathetic, finally this guy shows something and larussa benches him?

Augusto Barojas

La Clown is a small, petty, joyless man.

ChiSoxND12

I didn’t have much of an issue with taking him out

ForsterFTOG

I had no delusions of a 9 inning no hitter but let the guy pitch the 7th. Not going to stretch him out until you stretch him out.

As Cirensica

Why is Robert out of the game again?
I haven’t been paying too much attention

soxygen

He played hard for a few innings but then hurt himself sliding in to second headfirst on a steal attempt. I don’t know what else to say. It’s all been said before.

Adam

Slid in to 2nd, Schoop had the bag blocked and it looked like his hand bent backwards. I thought it looked like broken finger but hopefully not

Nellie Fox

You have not missed anything, kopeck has a 6 inning no hitter and Robert hurts himself sliding… Both are out of the game. Typical game

Foulkelore

He tried to steal second, slid head first, Schoop was blocking the whole bag with his leg. Robert’s oven mitt hand hit Schoop’s leg. I’m not sure what exactly he hurt (hand, arm, or shoulder).

As Cirensica

Thanks everybody. That’s why we don’t hustle. Players are fragile as snowflakes.

Adam

It does seem that way. Eloy was taking it easy in April. Then one rainy day in Minnesota he decided to run…and they were calling for the cart 2 minutes later. Our year

abehickock

His legs may also be sore due to running.

Foulkelore

Official word is a sprained wrist. Of course, like every White Sox injured player, he is day-to-day.

Adam

I don’t know, he missed a month with a vitamin deficiency. I feel like this could be season ending. Sprains are tricky

Nellie Fox

Moncada is not close to the base… Can we find someone who has a baseball instinct

abehickock

We prefer big, muscular guys who strike out a lot and then hurt themselves.

ChiSoxND12

Sox don’t strike out much at all. Bats are feeble AF, but they really don’t K much

bullrun1861

It’s more important he styles with either neon yellow or hot pink colors than base running.

Augusto Barojas

Well the Guardians are up 8-0 late. So either the Sox win this game or they drop to 4 1/2 back. They might actually not win this division. Unbelievable.

Nellie Fox

Moncada jogging into 2nd base, at least run may force a bad throw

As Cirensica

We scored 2 runs….with a bloop single. I’ll take it.

abehickock

Why can’t they all hustle like Engel just did trying to beat the throw to second base. If they played like that on every play they would be more entertaining and successful and probably have less injuries.

Nellie Fox

Agree, a player who hustles have the muscle mass to avoid a simple injury. Learned that in high school baseball.

Right Size Wrong Shape

That’s right kids, you want to be able to stay on the field like…Adam Engel.

Shingos Cheeseburgers

Oh cool Steve is here to talk down to us!

Shingos Cheeseburgers

Ok that Lourdes joke was good as hell, though.

denman

Seriously, 7 of the 8 Sox hits have been singles. We’re lucky to have 2 runs.

bullrun1861

@MLBRandomStats guru Jeremy Frank tweeted, “705 of the White Sox’s first 1,000 hits this year were singles. Most recent teams to finish a season with at least 70% of their hits being singles: 2018 Marlins (63-98), 2016 Marlins (79-82), 2015 Marlins (71-91), 2015 Braves (67-95). The Tigers also are on pace to join this list.”

bullrun1861

I should confirm before reposting this but the same thread says…

“James Kallianis @JamesKallianis · Aug 11 Replying to @MLBRandomStats
All three of those Marlins teams had Frank Menechino as their hitting coach (current White Sox hitting coach). I’m sensing a pattern!”

bullrun1861

Sure enough. Menechino was Marlins hitting coach 2014-2018. Interestingly he had a co-hitting coach 2015-2018. He was solo in 2014. 2015 was w/Lenny Harris, 2016 was (wait for it) w/Barry Bonds, 2017 and 2018 was w/Mike Pagliarulo. Source: Baseball-Reference

Adam

Eloy has been running out walks lately harder than most guys run slow grounders. Maybe trying to lead by example? Idk, it’s just strange when I see our guys run so I noticed

As Cirensica

Fire

soxygen

He hasn’t been infected. Ideally we could keep him socially distant from his teammates.

abehickock

Cabrera was dogging it down the line before Sosa booted the ball.
