Honestly I think it was smart for the Sox to limit their transactions today since it allowed them to avoid their biggest organizational weakness: adding MLB-ready talent to a mediocre roster.
Game starting soon. Hopefully there’s someone in charge of making sure there’s a pillow in the dugout for Tony. I’d like to know that he’s comfortable.
Perhaps there was some honest self reflection, and they admitted to themselves that this team is obviously going nowhere this season. It’s sad that the best Sox fans could hope for was not trading away good prospects for tiddly wink upgrades. But at least that did not happen.
I only hope their decision to in a sense throw in the towel on the season has nothing to do with Robert’s health. That’s really the only point I am interested in from here on out. Hope that dude is ok. Other than that, this team has been and is a waste of time.
I’m glad to hear Robert’s symptoms are gone and he’s playing tomorrow, but why do the Sox always activate a player a day early and play short-handed for a day? Why not just activate him tomorrow?
My question, as well. My only thought is that Robert could be good to pinch hit in a critical situation. I doubt it. I suspect it was just poor roster management.
Really good to hear, last I saw was that he was unlikely to play in this series. Anyway glad it was nothing too serious, hopefully.
Wishing you guys luck, I may pack it in for a while. This team is incredibly un-inspiring, and frankly, depressing. I need more upbeat energy and enjoyment in my life, and there is none coming from following this team. Will be rooting for teams to beat the Yankees and Dodgers in a few weeks, would be happy to see any World Series involving neither! Peace and good health everybody.
They said a mix of (some) virus plus a vitamin deficiency, interestingly enough. If the virus is gone, and the vitamins can be managed, this is a way better outcome than I was fearing.
The Sox don’t need to make any trades. They have a secret weapon: time to unleash the Andrew Vaughn triples.
We are clobbering a mediocre RHP. Did I get the wrong feed?
Maybe they traded for some regression.
I’m very up for Jose Abreu to manage the Sox next season. He can play 1B too – whatever.
It took me a long time to place it but the pictures on the Jason/Steve Fan Club shirts looks like when Tommy Pencils painted Tim and Sam on the side of the police auction van in Detroiters.
Thank you for letting me spill this brain vomit that surely no one else will recognize.
Yes, good call! Auto-rec for Detroiters reference.
When I was in Detroit for opening day I went to Temple Bar, which is the bar they hang out at in the show. It is *exactly* as depicted in the show, which is to say it’s awesome.
That’s so cool. I didn’t know that was an actual location. I need to rewatch that series again. For anybody who knows/likes “I Think You Should Leave”, check out The Detroiters if you haven’t already.
Thanks for the rec!
Is Tony napping again?
Lmao…the Royals playing terrible defense. It’s cute seeing it from the other side.
By my math, they got 1 out of 4 outs there.
Moncads’s body language is odd. He looks like a guy who rather be somewhere else.
Is Moncada on our infamous shadow IL? Really lame to see him casually mosey on over to 1st.
I think you are exaggerating his speed on that play.
Nice hustle on the bases.
How can the Sox allow Moncada to just jog down the first base line on a potential double play ball? I can’t believe what I’m seeing. Abreu wasn’t hustling going from first to second either.
That was my thought too – I guess they were in a hurry to get back to the dugout!
I think the only way Moncada could get benched is if he ran around the dugout yelling “viva Fidel!” I’m guessing Tony isn’t down with communism.
Please let us know when you find out. Moncada is getting paid for this shit too.
Moncada must be on the no hustle list. If not why is still on this team after that?
They should have removed Moncada from the lineup immediately. Who wants to pay to see that type of effort. Again he just jogged down to first!!
He looks awful. I just don’t know how he keeps playing.
I missed an Eloy that could hit.
Diekman is warming, With the Royals having 4 lefties between 6 and 1, it will be a good spot to use him.
Might as well make him as comfortable as possible as fast as possible. You know, since this team is allegedly trying to win the division.
Who’s on the team longer going forward: TLR or Yasmani?
Throw moncada in for the trifecta.
Shockingly competent debut from Diekman
Good impression thus far
Trading McGuire for Diekman was a stroke of genius.
This is exactly what I would have envisioned a game between the third and fourth place teams in the 2022 AL Central looking like
Yep. Plenty of woefulness all around. You’ve got to admire Kansas City’s evident determination to not let the Sox lose this game.
Sox are doing what they have all year… Pound the opponent in one game and then put the bats away for the next 3. Tomorrow they lose and not score a run.
I would like to give a shout-out to 1) Mike Matheny for leaving Bad Keller out there and 2) Jose for washing out the taste of that bad baserunning play as quickly as possible.
Tim should be running there against *most* LFs, but Isbel is a plus-fielding RF and the arm to match. KYP, as Stacy King likes to say.
I didn’t think it was horrible baserunning in that situation. He gambled and lost, but it took a great throw. If you’re going to try it, that’s the situation to do it.
No, basic baseball is not what Anderson did. Flyout to deep left, only play for the outfielder is throw to third, Anderson was out by 3 feet.
You bitch when they’re aggressive, you bitch when they aren’t.
I believe in basic baseball, you can call it what you wish.
I think it’s good aggressive baserunning against most LFs! just not this particular LF, who has a RF’s arm and on that play had plenty of time to set up in textbook form.
My team is on the field!
What in the fuck are you talking about, LuBob?
Going with the inner confidence of Hale in the face of another year of Shooter at the wheel.
What in the fuck are you talking about, LuBob?
Gavin Sheets takes the eyes off the ball when hitting that homer
Notice moncada runs off the field after the 3rd out faster and harder than he did running to first base.
The problem is not lack of hustle, it is that they aren’t jogging enough
Just keep winning series boys.
I’d like to give my thanks to Minnesota’s Jax-Megill-Pagan trio for blowing another lead before their bullpen reinforcements arrive.
