Didn’t think there was any chance of the Sox getting swept by the DBacks at home, with Cease on the mound. Then I saw the Line-up.
I’ve seen a lot of people talking the lineup today but really….at this point does it matter? Every lineup, injured or not, has produced 2 or maybe 3 runs a game. Can it get worse? So as the great Frank says on its always sunny, time to get weird with it
Good point
Hey if we could get 3 runs we might just win today
There’s some legitimate debate over whether Pollock should lead off or not, but one big advantage if he were to lead off: one less PA per game where he can hit into a double play. Jeez.
Pollock has jumped Nick Swisher on my all time sox hate list. At least swish would just keep the bat on his shoulders and strike out. Pollock is determined to wipe every baserunner off the path
On his third PA today, he adds a $1mil raise to his player option.
No. Nooooo.NO! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There never has been and never will be anyone worse than him.
Fuck Nick Swisher.
Bought a Nick Swisher jersey, to replace my Tadahito Iguchi jersey, when they signed him. Wore it once.
Fellow season ticket holder friends forbade me from ever buying another Sox jersey.
Well Jose says if you believe it, it can happen. I believe we can get La Russa fired. A home shut out leading to a d backs sweep. At least they can say they gave it 100% effort. Let’s go! Don’t stop now boys
My sentiment exactly. I hope this team winds up with 77 wins, personally. I think totally possible that Tony can be gone. Believe!!
The White Sox have won three championships in 121 years. If you think replacing the manager is going to change anything, you’re probably going to be disappointed year after year.
Fixing one of six things wrong doesn’t bring a championship but it may be step 2 in the recovery process.
LaRussa deserves to be fired, but Jerry likely won’t fix the issue. He is more likely to hire another bad manager
And that is something he is pretty good at!
Changing the Manager should not be the first move. Changing the people that decide on the next Manager should be the first move.
Yep. Short term pain, which we already have, in the hope of a better future. It was cruel to tell us this team could contend. They don’t care about the truth.
Just had to push him into the 8th.
Today’s line up looks like something taken from tanking years. Yikes
The fact that Zack Davies pitched a shutout for 5.2 innings says it all. A nice outing for Cease, too bad he won’t get the win
i wonder if Ricky Renteria getting fired came from Jerry’s orders so Jerry could hire TLR or when Hahn fired RR, Jerry saw the opportunity to bring in TLR. In other words, I wonder if TLR got RR fired implicitly.
Ricky got Ricky fired, if you want to believe differently then whatever…..
Often times, I miss Ricky.
Watching Graveman pitch is really getting old.
Leury Garcia is pinch hitting -in no universe is this a good idea
3D chess stuff
Let’s pull a guy OPSing 800 against righties for a guy OPSing 500 because of the handedness advantage.
Luis Robert…pinch runner. The new Billy Hamilton.
Wow!! Leury pinch hitter. Yes!!!! This is classic. Seby hitting about .290. A single ties it. Who cares gimme Leury
I agree, PH Garcia is just stupid. I hope this doesn’t age well.
It ages like a fine wine
I was just shocked it got to 3 balls, of course they were so far out of the strike zone that even Leury wouldn’t swing at them.
Even if he had managed to tie the game then you are going into extra innings with a runner in scoring position and a rookie late game sub in at catcher a day after he had a horrible game behind the plate.
The results were to be expected, but it’s the thought process that matters with something like that and the thought process sucked.
Swept by Arizona. A really bad team. At home.
I wonder how angry TLR will get.
When the “managers don’t matter” crowd come calling show them the ninth inning.
I tied game would’ve just meant a loss anyhow from the team that can’t advance the Manfred man. PH Garcia was just stupid but it doesn’t really matter that much.
In one game it doesn’t really matter that much, but a manager’s value is measured in the margins. There was a roughly 12% better chance that Savala extended the inning (and a 10% better chance the game) than that Garcia did. So for every 8-10 of those opportunities that Tony posses away we lose one more game.
So yeah, it matters. Quite a bit in fact.
Maybe, if we keep this up, we’ll get a protected draft pick?
Glass half full
Plus tomorrows podcast should be highly entertaining.
We are in the all too typical Sox position of too bad to win but too late to start tanking for draft position. In other words, mired in mediocracy.
Better draft choice, better possibility of Tony being replaced, better chances of off season changes. Lots to like about this little bad streak, actually.
Better than seeing them squeak into the playoffs and hear more bullshit narratives about how they are still really close to the goal but barely coming up short, or some such nonsense.
But that still means Jerry must make the right decision. What are the odds of that?
Pinch hitting with Leury Mendoza fresh off a rehab assignment is one of the saddest baseball moves I’ve ever seen.
The number of fireable offenses Tony has committed this year has to be in double figures now, but this has to be one of the top 2or 3.
I think he reached double figures in May
I was being way too kind.
Unfortunately being a long term Sox fan requires me to forget such idiocy year after year. This year is worse because our expectations were raised. Get rid of some of the bums please.
This year of TLR is worse because it’s worse. Most of the problems Sox fans endure are reruns of mediocrity past but TLR is uniquely frustrating because everyone knew it was an awful hire, everyone sees it is as bad as feared, and everyone knows he will be there as long as he chooses to be.
If you talk to a fan of Pirates, Angels, or Tigers or … about the Sox ownership and GM, many will argue theirs are even worse. If you bring up TLR, they concede the Sox are more screwed than their team.
Worse than what exactly? Certainly it is not objectively worse than many years of winning much less than half the games. But in most of those years supposedly we did not have much talent on the roster. So do we really have great talent like RH told us? After all he was so smart that he locked some of into longish contracts before they proved anything in the MLB.
If you want you can still be convinced of the bright future of this group if only TLR is gone. The only we find out is if the other variables are changed. Personally I will not be sucked in again by this group TLR gone or not.
I don’t see how my comment came across as me being convinced of a bright future if only TLR were removed.
I’m surprised that all it takes to be considered an optimist on this forum is to state that Pirate fans think their owner is worse than Jerry. I think the criterion for being an optimist should be that one expects things to get better and I can’t say that I do.
Just to put some numbers to the lunacy of it, vs RHP this year Leury is hitting .211 and Zavala is hitting .304.
WTF was Tony thinking?
Wow, that difference is even more dramatic that I thought it would be.
I have no research to back this up, but it seems like Zavala puts together his best at bats late in games, too.
How many times can a man turn his head
and pretend that he just doesn’t see?
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.
The answer is blowing in the wind.
Dylan-
In shock-corridors
People are standing
With their eyes in their hands
But they don’t understand
Why their confessional folding-chairs
Go into the narcotic flight of stairs
Baiting soldiers are sleeping
In the melting House of Wax
Why is the audience not taking
The insurrection-axe
Thousands of windows burst open
And the alarm bells are broken
— Amon Düül II
The Dylan that comes to mind with La Russa’s recent utterances is this:
Idiot wind
Blowing every time you move your mouth
Blowing down the back roads headin’ south
Idiot wind
Blowing every time you move your teeth
You’re an idiot, babe
It’s a wonder that you still know how to breathe
Probably the most disappointing White Sox season of my life time (b. 1965). More than 1984, 1991, 1995, 2001, and 2006/7. I was visiting my brother in Chicago earlier in the month and had zero interest in wasting my time or money going to a game. Almost any other year, I would have made very effort to attend. As others have pointed out, the tanking years generated more interest than this team.
Answer to this season would be for absolutely nobody to show up for the rest of the home games. Nobody !!!!
2 and 8 over their last 10. 2 games under .500. Still only 5 back.
Jim is in shock. Somebody checks on him. He hasn’t put up a game recap yet.
At least the season is over. There’s too many things I can’t grasp how this team was put together and then managed to even begin. Being swept by the Dbacks and virtually ending your season should be the cause for terminations, but it won’t happen. I’ve been very reluctant to wish others ill will to others, but I wish Jerry would bloody die. It’s a toss up if a new owner would be better, but at least there would be some semblance of hope it could be. The White Sox are one of the worst run sports franchises in all of North American sports and I feel like a complete schmuck for being a fan.
