I feel bad for Cueto…I feel like he’s had an inordinate number of games in which TLR puts out a lineup that looks designed to lose the game.

King Joffrey

LaRussa utilizing the ‘some hands on deck’ deployment.

soxygen

Francona probably didn’t game plan for this lineup. Tony outsmarting everyone again…

Foulkelore

It has been decreed that Cleveland shall get every damn lead off hitter on in this series.

reuan11

Another lineup with about 5 guys who should be bench players. Seriously, if we get swept today and have to face Bieber tomorrow, this season could be over.

tommytwonines

Imagine this lineup without Abreu next year, the one guy who produces regularly and can play every day.

As Cirensica

Leury will carry the load. That’s why Hahn gave him a 3 year deal.

As Cirensica

Grandal doing things.

Foulkelore

That was a great walk by Sheets.

As Cirensica

100%
McKenzie might be tiring already

Foulkelore

Little League defense

HouseOfTheRisingSox

I could put up with our defense if we could hit. But to not have either……just not fun

soxygen

We should put that play on the season retrospective

As Cirensica

We can’t have nice things

As Cirensica

3 runs look like the 27 runs Toronto put up yesterday

Nellie Fox

Just tuned in, why is Anderson not in the lineup? A day of rest?

Marty34

Yes.

Augusto Barojas

Unless something is wrong with TA and he sits the 2nd game as well, I think rest is pretty ridiculous. He never should have played in the allstar game if he is that fatigued that he can’t play a doubleheader.

All just nonsense so that Leury plays more than he should. La Clown’s middle finger to the fans, as if he hasn’t given that gesture enough times this season.

Foulkelore

One of TLR’s favorite things is double-headers. He loves being able to plan out ahead of time his two lineups that get every position player on the roster at least one start. Tim, Eloy, and Pollock will start game 2. I’m pretty sure, based on this history, that McGuire’s going to start at catcher in game 2 vs. a LHP, which is dumb as well.

As Cirensica

3d chess stuff

Foulkelore

Yep, McGuire’s in against the lefty. Everybody gets to start. Yay!

Augusto Barojas

So in a double header, Zavala starts vs a righty, and McGuire vs a lefty. I mean how clueless does a manager have to be to not notice and question that?

soxygen

That’s a real head scratcher…Also, I seem to recall that Lynn particularly likes throwing to Seby.

Augusto Barojas

Tony is consistent about the results not mattering I guess. The good news is that the Sox face a lefty in game 2 so they should score some runs. The bad news is Lynn is on the mound.

Marty34

Probably pitcher’s choice of who they prefer to throw to.

As Cirensica

And of course McGuire has a hit in his first PA

LamarHoyt_oncrack

If they played in Europe, would Myles Straw be known as Kilometers Straw?

soxygen

I love a good metric system joke

Joliet Orange Sox

Erg

Foulkelore

Kylometers Straw

As Cirensica

Kylometre in Canada

Marty34

Would love to know this offense’s slash line first time through the order at home.

soxygen

We really struggle early in games. I was able to find it for the first 3 innings: .225/.276/.342.

Marty34

Thank you for the legwork. Putrid numbers

As Cirensica

It feels like Leury’s last hit occurred 8 weeks ago

As Cirensica

Let me get this, TLR pinched hit the only credible outfielder available in this roster?
3D chess stuff

soxygen

Yeah, not sure what to make of that. Is Engel hurt? Leury or Pollock will need to play CF.

Foulkelore

Nice rally. I’m not going to say DSNB, because then they always stop. So: prohibit quitting immediately guys.

As Cirensica

Tie game 😳

As Cirensica

It would not surprise me TLR sents out Cueto in the 8th

soxygen

Moncada with the matador defense again

ThisReallySox
soxygen

Interesting decision to bring Hendriks in for the 9th given that Graveman has already been used. We’ll need someone who can get strikeouts in extra innings if we don’t win it in the 9th.

soxygen

Not sure it was the wrong move, but it sure didn’t work out

LamarHoyt_oncrack

Maybe they could deal Liam (or Graveman) to the Dodgers for a couple top prospects? It might be best to think about punting this season and think creatively about how to get some badly needed minor league talent. Relievers are easily replaceable in the FA market, so they might not be worse off next year.

As Cirensica

The Yankees are desperate for relievers. Chapman sucks and they just lost King for the season. They have some good prospects.

Foulkelore

Well, might as well give up 1 more run at this point, so they think about not putting in Clase.

As Cirensica

It was nice until it wasn’t

soxygen

Cleveland radio announcer Tom Hamilton when the Sox throw the ball around the horn after getting three outs: “Why are the Sox throwing the ball around the horn? Well, I guess that says it all.”

Foulkelore

Hey, they need any practice throwing that they can get.

soxygen

So far this year, Cleveland has out scored their opponents in the 9th inning by 20 runs. Gotta put those guys away early.

As Cirensica

Winning a series at home has been close to impossible

As Cirensica

Rosario, Ramirez, and Giménez playing back to back games? No way. Doesn’t Feancona know players need to take breaks to keep them fresh?

Adam

Josh said game 1 was the worst defensive outfield configuration he’s seen. Larussa has accepted that challenge in game 2. And then they wonder why they can’t beat Cleveland. Slap single hitters vs. slow outfielders = 15 bloop hits per game

As Cirensica

Engel cannot play back to back games. He’ll break.

Nellie Fox

Hawk Harrelson pointed out that the agents of these players are dictating players to go on a 10 day dl instead of playing with a hangnail. The players are told not to hustle and the pitchers are using the same theory now. This management is destroying the Sox.

Joliet Orange Sox

Hawk Harrelson? Playing hurt is something the Sox have too much of in my opinion not too little of.

Nellie Fox

Totally disagree, the Sox need to pay for production rather than paying for what they did yesterday. Injuries like Robert is rediculous as he has been off for a week. Get some players who want to play every day not just get paid

Foulkelore

Robert still has blurry vision, which is not exactly conducive to playing baseball. Hawk makes it sound like the White Sox are the only team that pays players who have agents. Go look at what Manny Machado and Bryce Harper have done since getting their massive guaranteed deals, and let me know if it made them complacent.

Nellie Fox

Sox don’t pay those two. Some players do play thru hangnails and hustle on every play both offensive and defensive.

Right Size Wrong Shape

Robert has had blurry vision for over a week, and you think he should just suck it up and take the field?

Nellie Fox

No, he still has blurred vision and the Sox don’t know why? It has been a week , continues to get paid?

Right Size Wrong Shape

Are you for real, or is this some kind of character you’re developing?

As Cirensica

Playing hurt has been a problem because often this organization don’t use the IL properly.

As Cirensica

Walking Maile is suboptimal.

Nellie Fox

Game 2 will be another chance to win….. Just kidding

Foulkelore

Ugh, Vaughn forgets he has a good eye after going up 2-1 against a guy who can’t find the zone, and Abreu was late on 91/92 mph fastballs.

a-t

well it feels like Lance is back to last year’s level, which is good news

Foulkelore

The swings on Lynn’s fastballs in that 5th inning looked like they are supposed to when Lynn is right. That’s very nice to see.

Adam

Total random thought, but given his lefty bat, catchers helmet and look of his face, it just donned on me that Reese McGuire is the spitting image of Mark Johnson. If you remember role players of the early 00 Sox

Right Size Wrong Shape

Both first round picks, too.

Right Size Wrong Shape

Josh Harrison couldn’t jump over a phone book.

I’m not sure that’s the best reference. I barely remember phone books and I was born during the JFK administration.

Right Size Wrong Shape

I was born in the last days of Carter, and I have 3 of them on top of my refrigerator which I use regularly.

You do?

Right Size Wrong Shape

Why not?

a-t

He’s reasonably athletic, but he’s stil 5’8”

Foulkelore

There you go, Eloy! More of that, please.

Right Size Wrong Shape

It’s such a beautiful power swing. I don’t think I could ever give up on him.

Foulkelore

I also can’t quit him.

a-t

need to be seeing a lot of the ‘ice in the veins’ jogging round third this second half

Right Size Wrong Shape

So glad that we had Ruiz all rested up for this situation.

Augusto Barojas

I was going to say I pray that Kelly doesn’t make his way into this game at some point, but Ruiz isn’t exactly a welcome sight either.

Augusto Barojas

This team is a banquet of endless sorrow. Lynn doesn’t give up any runs and still won’t get a win. Now the Sox need to come back. Unbelievable.

As Cirensica

Disheartening. I gotta stop watching the White Sox playin at home.

As Cirensica

Never had a doubt 😅

Right Size Wrong Shape

He’s not really going to bring in Matt Foster is he?

Foulkelore

Oh, but he is.

soxygen

That’s right. Foster’s going to do the ol’ rock-a-bye-baby routine. If the Guardians fall asleep then we win.

Nellie Fox

Hendricks pitched in the first game, he rests in the second game. This is becoming a trend ?

Augusto Barojas

Just wow. I missed the end but I would been in disbelief that Foster would pitch in that situation. Neither Graveman nor Hendriks? It worked, but it’s almost like La Clown wants to put them in the best position to lose at all times. He’s been quite successful.

Root Cause

someone gave him the phonebook from a small town but it was enough.

Right Size Wrong Shape

Get that man some elevator shoes!
