3 days game suspension for TA. Well played.

Augusto Barojas

Gives La Genius a chance to get Leury into the lineup for a few games. Shrewd.

dwjm3

Really dumb move by Tim…he has to stay more composed than that

soxygen

Vaughn, Pollock, and Sheets. That’s a really bad outfield.

dwjm3

Lol two first baseman in the outfield…only the white sox

Ben

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/07/diamondbacks-trade-david-peralta-rays.html

Meanwhile another OF who can hit right handed pitching gets moved for minimal prospect capital.

knash

Robert not playing the next few days because of cold like symptoms.

Here’s my tin foil conspiracy theory: Hahn has a Soto offer on the table centered around Robert.

dwjm3

How do we get better by subtracting Robert? We need Robert and Soto to get better

knash

While having Robert and Soto will literally never happen, I don’t disagree.

But also Robert (with about 5 guys) is the only way we’d ever land Soto, and if Jerry ponied up the cash to extend him, I’d do this trade.

And I’d take it.

dwjm3

Honestly, Jerry refuses to even give out a 100 million dollar contract I can’t imagine him giving out a 400 million dollar contract to Soto

phillyd

Soto isn’t 5 additional players better than Robert. Not sure he is even 2 players better and that is before considering contracts and control.

SocksO’Graham

I have suggested here recently that giving up Robert as part of a deal for Soto is a no-brainer. Often injured questionable head case in my opinion for an MVP candidate at 23? Include Kopech as well. Neither is mentally tough.

Right Size Wrong Shape

Thanks Dr. Phil.

Augusto Barojas

Seriously, he now has cold symptoms after his light headedness and isn’t even going to play this weekend in the minors? Geez. I hope that’s what it is rather than an extension of whatever weird symptoms he was dealing with before. Their season is fubar.

Foulkelore

This offense … Oakland’s awful offense is showing you how to do it in this park. Pull the ball in the air. Nothing but ground balls in the 1st for the Sox.

As Cirensica

So this Blackburn pitcher is a mediocre pitcher. You can tell by the way he is dominating with a very low pitch count

Adam

Boy, I’m a glass half full fan, but this is pathetic. The A’s are a putrid excuse for a tanking team. And they are smashing the Sox at home. Terrible.

Nellie Fox

No worries, Garcia will pinch hit in the ninth and hit a 5 run homer , just to tie.

Adam

I have complete faith in this. But I also fear he’ll miss first base and it will be a walkoff challenge as he’s called out and we lose by 1

Right Size Wrong Shape

That 3-0 pitch to Grandal. Mercy! Destroyed the inning.

Last edited 4 months ago by Right Size Wrong Shape
Foulkelore

Yep, instead of bases loaded with 1 out and Eloy up, of course he hits into a double play to end the inning.

dwjm3

He killed that ball as well…shame

Right Size Wrong Shape

And then Eloy singles. Grrrrrr…..

Adam

And a single off the wall at that

Right Size Wrong Shape

And now he screws Sheets.

Adam

Unfortunately it happens all the time though. The 3-0 zone is extremely forgiving. Bottom line is Blackburn grooved 2 middle-middle meatballs after that 3-0 pitch. Took 1. Put the next on the ground. Just like Lynn’s collapse after Abreus error, at some point you have to overcome 1 bad play and do something positive. We seem to suck at that.

Right Size Wrong Shape

Alternatively: Tripp Gibson could do his job.

jhomeslice

When the Sox get Aaron Bummer back, watch out American League!!

dwjm3

You still confident we will win the division?

jhomeslice

Not as much as a few days ago. They started a stretch of 19 totally cream puff games, and are going to be hard pressed to win 3 out of the first 5. The 2nd game vs the Rockies really hurt.

And truthfully, as the season has gone on it has become painfully obvious they are really not that good. And TLR just kills them, so many negative intangibles b/c of him.

Foulkelore

Wow, just wow

soxygen

Yeah. 2nd and 3rd no outs and we can’t even get one run.

OldMMJ87

It’s almost impressive

Foulkelore

And just horrible chases by Harrison and Tim after Sheets was the first to fail.

Nellie Fox

Maybe the hitting coach left the team?

OldMMJ87

That’s the only way it will change seemingly

OldMMJ87

As soon as Sheets popped up I had a bad feeling.

Marty34

Both the Sox and Anderson would benefit by him being elsewhere by the deadline.

Nellie Fox

Agree, he is possibly the only chip the Sox have for a trade.

OldMMJ87

I do not trust this front office to attempt anything like a third rebuild.

Right Size Wrong Shape

Is there a way to download the Nellie Fox / Marty 34 podcast? I think it wold be wildly entertaining.

You must be on instagram

HallofFrank

lol

Right Size Wrong Shape

Maybe try saying some of your ideas out loud first. Just see how it sounds. Ask yourself, “Did that sound completely ridiculous?” If so, maybe don’t actually type it out for others to see.

Nellie Fox

Another great thought, throw moncada in for the ball girl, he is absolutely worthless and that is a fact as you can look at his performance for proof in every game.

Right Size Wrong Shape

You’re a treasure.

Adam

I’d trade every player you could reasonably sell high(ish) on. TA, Cueto, Hendriks,Abreu. Let those 4 be the rebuild to go at it next year.

And I like those guys. But this isn’t working. Vaughn needs first base, Eloy needs Dh. Taking those two from the outfield equals 50 runs saved imo.

Marty34

Yep, these Anderson fanboys fail to acknowledge he will be 30 y.o. next year and is struggling defensively presently.

HallofFrank

A 29-year-old SS “struggling defensively” but with a 120 wRC+ can’t possibly be in the top 30 of things wrong with this team. It’s somewhere on the spectrum of ridiculous to hilarious that anyone could watch this team and their takeaway is, “yeah, TA has got to go.”

Last edited 4 months ago by HallofFrank
Marty34

Not at all comfortable with paying him $100M+ post 30 years of age.

HallofFrank

Are you suggesting the Sox should trade him in the next 3 days to avoid offering him $100m+ in 2025, when he becomes a free agent? That’s… a strategy.

SocksO’Graham

Bingo! I agree with you.

Foulkelore

Sigh, this is getting tired already. He’s their second best position player this year, and they have no one good ready to play SS in their system. Trading him does not benefit the Sox.

Adam

The Guardians traded Lindor with nobody ready, but they got two shortstops back in the deal, which now makes up maybe the best middle infield in the Al

Right Size Wrong Shape

Cleveland is cheap. They should not be the model for how the Sox go about their business.

jhomeslice

I’m not on board with that at all, but would love to see them regroup and think about trying him a few games in RF just to see if he has any natural ability out there. It’s going to be brutally difficult for them to become a good defensive team with him at SS, that’s just the reality.

I’m sure he’s not going anywhere. I’m a fan of TA7 but do think they might do well to explore other positions with him, opening up the possibility of a good FA SS next winter.

Marty34

I just don’t see him having the bat for an outfield position

jhomeslice

His OPS was well over .800 from 2019-21. What are you talking about? This isn’t his best year I’ll give you that, but he’s better than Sheets, Pollock, and Eloy.

Marty34

To me it’s move him to second or trade him. I think with his age and injury history this is likely his decline phase.

ChiSoxND12

I agree w your statement that it’s a little tough to envision a plus Sox defense with Tim manning SS.

I think LF/CF and obvi 2B might be more realistic switches for him than RF. Good orgs are proactive, and TA isn’t lacking any athleticism that’s for sure. With that said, we know the Sox don’t operate that way.

Their M.O is to smush 1B/DH types into corner OF spots and in Burger’s case, 3B

HallofFrank

Even if the Sox get one of those lefty relievers tonight and come back and win, this game is disheartening. It is a constant struggle against thoroughly blah righties. If you can’t get to Blackburn or Kapriellan in an important series like this one, you really have no business being in the playoffs—much less being buyers or being within 10 games of 1st place.

OldMMJ87

I know this isn’t entirely Tony’s fault, but is there any argument other than “He’s the owner’s close friend” to keeping him around as manager? I really can’t imagine any other organization would have kept him after losing a series like this at home.

jhomeslice

Are you kidding? No other organization would have even considered hiring him at his age in the first place, much less keep him around after what we’ve all been traumatized by watching this year.

As Cirensica

Sheets needs to go. The Rays got Peralta for almost nothing. What’s Hahn doing?

Foulkelore

Working on overpaying for relievers

Marty34

Hahn’s tenure is marked by miserable corner OF’ers and DH’s the easiest positions to fill. Teflon Hahn.

As Cirensica

Of course he hits the homer to tie the game because baseball

Right Size Wrong Shape

Nice little rally from our speedy corner outfielders.

Foulkelore

Cue censored Earl Weaver: “Team speed for Christ sake, you get blanking blank blank little fleas on the blanking bases getting picked off, trying to steal, getting thrown out, taking runs away from you, you get them big blankity blanks that can hit the blanking ball out of the ballpark and you can’t make any blankity blank mistakes.”

ParisSox

It seems like this team is so easy to game plan against. Their weaknesses are so glaring that mediocre pitchers can have success against them with a good plan.

HallofFrank

It’s as easy as gathering up any pitchers on your team that throw with their left hand and saying, “learn to throw with your right hand or stay at the hotel.”

Foulkelore

Walk Brown, please

Right Size Wrong Shape

Not until we get the count to 1-2.

Foulkelore

Whew, Jimmy made a mistake with his location on that last pitch, and Brown hit it hard. Great play by Jose.

Nellie Fox

Interesting move bringing in your closer to start the ninth? Larrusa has gone off the deep end.

dwjm3

Actually that is modern thinking …I’m glad LaRussa is engaging in modern thinking for once

mrridgman

Yeah he didn’t do this at all last year, several times Hendriks never got in a game we lost. Learning on the job.

Right Size Wrong Shape

You’d rather save him for a situation that might never come?

Nellie Fox

No actually ,in my opinion, would be better served to start the tenth with the extra inning rule.

Right Size Wrong Shape

Like I said…

Foulkelore

Since it’s a home game, this is kind of traditional. Once the game is tied in the 9th at home, it is not possible to get a save situation (home team’s next lead automatically wins the game).

dwjm3

Vaughn needs to play deeper…too slow to play that shallow

Foulkelore

Wild pitch offense to the rescue!

a-t

#WILDPITCHOFFENSE

Great win against another top AL contender and their All-Star starter 🙂

a-t

What’s the record for how many different .500 records in a season?

Right Size Wrong Shape

WPO!

Right Size Wrong Shape

Any idea what a Mike Yastrzemski deal would look like? He’s cheap and under control for a long time, but he’s also having a down year and is already 31. Good outfield defense and hits lefty. I have no idea what SF would expect in a deal for him.

ChiSoxND12

My complete guess is that SFG isn’t gonna sell

metasox

If they do sell, it won’t be a complete teardown. So likely no rush to trade guys controllable for several yrs

Right Size Wrong Shape

The last report I saw said that they’d discuss anyone other than Logan Webb.

a-t

3 years of ~3 WAR outfield player probably means they’d gonna ask for maybe Colas, Rodriguez, and Vera as an opening salvo?
