Back in 1979, then-Yankees pitcher Dock Ellis told reporters that he hoped the team would lose because “the more we lose, the more often Steinbrenner will fly in. And the more he flies, the better chance there will be of the plane crashing.” (Reggie Jackson’s memoir has the quote,)

The first inning of this game triggered that memory.

They would be better off losing games than entertaining any delusional fantasies about making trades to give them a more respectable chance in a playoff series, if they even play in one.

A complete embarrassment top to bottom, starting with the hire of TLR and their utterly pitiful past two offseasons.

This is why, with offdays last Friday and Monday, and one coming this Monday, that you start Cease on normal rest and skip giving a turn to Velasquez or a minor league pitcher.

Root Cause

We cannot collectively buy the team.

Our best move is to crowdfund TLR a retirement-trust fund that he can only access before July 10th. I have $100, who is with me?

Paging Mr. Reinsforf. Joe Girardi just became available.

As Cirensica

Just tuning in…I see the White Sox are doing White Sox stuff. No changes.

As Cirensica

Grandal is just unwatchable. He is so lost at the moment. We can’t afford him in the line up anymore. Put him on the IL already. He is hurting.

As Cirensica

Tampa running around the bases as Grandal can’t throw anymore. Can’t hit. Just unwatchable

The Sox are in a bit of trouble if neither Grandal nor Moncada is playable. And right now, neither is.

Of all the decisions TLR has made that I don’t understand, the decision to save Hendriks for save situations that just aren’t there is the one I don’t understand the most.

As Cirensica

I am not putting that on TLR. It is mostly directed to Hahn who splurged loads of free agent money for a player that barely contributes (not his fault).

Augusto Barojas

He may not have any real reason to pitch until next Friday.

My highest hope: they lose the next 5 vs the Rays and Dodgers to get to 9 under. And by some miracle of divine mercy, the Sox have a new manager by Father’s day. But I’m an optimist.

My friend wants to go to a game in the Dodgers series at home. For the first time in a long time – even the awful depths of rebuilding – I thought “I don’t know if I want to go to a game.”

That’s how totally un-fun and actively off-putting this team is right now.

From what I could tell, several people attended that game

Can we swap franchises?
Sox fans deserve a well run organization and Tampa Fans couldn’t care less.

I remember being scared that Reinsdorf was going to move the team to Tampa if he didn’t get a stadium.

Too bad he didn’t. I think I would’ve been much happier becoming a brewers or Cardinals fan.

Joliet Orange Sox

If you were a Cardinals fan, you might have to spend time with other Cardinal fans. I lived in central Illinois for many years. They are not a charming bunch. I’m not sure exactly what the “Cardinal Way” is but it seemed to be an all-purpose way to justify arrogance. There was also a lot of bashing of the city of Chicago

I started out in central Illinois vaguely pro-Cardinal because I was raised a Cub-hater and I thought of the Cardinals as the enemy of my enemy. I now root for whoever has the worse record when the Cubs and Cardinals play hoping neither was winning seasons.

I have no such animosity for the Brewers. Most of my interactions with Brewer fans were fine and happened at Sox-Brewer games in Milwaukee when the Brewers were still in the AL. I’ve never lived surrounded by Brewer fans.

Root Cause

It is a conundrum but I think I would rather trade Hendricks for some offense and need him than keep him and sit him
