FutureSox Podcast ft. Josh Nelson: State of the Chicago White Sox
Mike Rankin and James Fox welcomed on Josh Nelson of Sox Machine to discuss the state of the underperforming Chicago White Sox as the calendar flips to June. Dallas Keuchel was designated for assignment, Eloy Jimenez left his first rehab appearance early with right leg tightness, Tim Anderson suffered what looked to be a significant groin injury and the big league lineup just flat out can’t hit. The guys discuss what’s next and how the organization can get themselves on the right path.
Later, Mike, James and Josh explain the reasons behind Colson Montgomery’s early success, the future of Oscar Colas and Yoelqui Cespedes, as well as a Major League Baseball Amateur Draft preview.
100% agree on un-jamming the minor league infield logjam. To get value from those guys as players on the major league squad or as trade assets, we need to use them before we lose them. That’s why it didn’t make sense to me to go out and bring in Josh Harrison to slot between Leury Garcia and Danny Mendick. Trade Mendick or Romy Gonzalez, or save the money they committed to Harrison. But signing Harrison and hanging on to both of those guys, with everything queued up behind them, is silly and wasteful.
