Timmy! Beautiful.

jorgefabregas

I really hope Luis isnโ€™t running wild this year. Donโ€™t think you want an mvp-caliber player doing that.

phillyd

I do. I would rather him sprint to steal second then have him running to second to break up a double play

soxfan

McGuire just showing off now. Couple nice blocks, settled down Kopech, and then laser to 2nd.

soxfan

Is it possible that the idea of Michael Kopech is better than the actual Michael Kopech?

He was pretty good last year, we might just need to get him through a full season or two as a starter before making the call either way. Hope he doesnโ€™t end up like some of these power arms and flame out though.

jhomeslice

He was great in April and May. After that his ERA was like 5. I think he will come around eventually, but maybe not as soon as we hope. I recall his start early last year where he dominated and looked fantastic. The he got hurt and was not the same coming back.

hitlesswonder

With Kopech looking like this, I have to think Andrew Vaughn and some minor leaguers are going to be on the way to Oakland for Montas by the end of next week.

md03

Might need that offense, hopefully we can send some A ball guys and someone like Sheets, but even that would be risky based on Montasโ€™ limited history as a starter. Heโ€™s already 29 too so donโ€™t see him peaking much more.

Joliet Orange Sox

Are the A’s including one of their highly rated prospect catchers in this deal for Vaughn and more?

jhomeslice

A win is a win (hopefully). Wasn’t super sharp but lasted 4 innings. The way people were talking, I didn’t expect him to go 4 untl May or June. But it won’t be his durability that prevents him from going deeper into games if he isn’t sharp. Still, not a terrible first outing at all.

a-t

Vaughnโ€™s too high a price to payโ€ฆ I say bravely after he just launched another dinger

Denman

Yeah, I don’t think Vaughn is going anywhere.

jhomeslice

I sure hope not. They should be able to weather this, it won’t be that long before Giolito is back, then hopefully Cueto, and eventually Lynn.

A shame they could not land Manaea, they would not have had to give Vaughn to get that done based on what the Pads gave.

madridsox

You wanna trade away Vaughn? Really? Really?

LuBob DuRob

Chill, Winstons. It’s two innings after an abbreviated spring.

soxfan

I mean someone complained about lineup construction in game 2โ€ฆjust sayinโ€™.

LuBob DuRob

Apt comparison.

LuBob DuRob

Yikes.

patty

Micker cleared waivers. Heading to Charlotte.

soxfan

Not shocked a contender didnโ€™t grab him, but somewhat surprised a rebuilding team wasnโ€™t willing to take a chance.

patty

Yeah, I figured he was gone.

Denman

Wow, I’m amazed he cleared. With Micker, Colas, Cespedes, and Haseley et al. still in the system, the Sox minor league outfield depth seems much improved over last season.

metasox

Maybe late in the season someone would have been more likely to take a look.

jhomeslice

Well passing through waivers is a pretty good confirmation that he has no trade value.

I suppose he has enough holes in his swing that MLB success is unlikely, but still, he did well enough last year and this spring that I am surprised some team didn’t want him.

a-t

He hit the ball very hard against diluted-quality pitchers ramping up. He still struck out an unplayable amount. He wonโ€™t have value to any major league team unless that changes.

dwjm3

Come on Eloyโ€ฆthat is Robertโ€™s ball

tommytwonines

Seems like another injury waiting to happen with those head-first slides and Eloy defensively in left.

jhomeslice

If you consider that 2020 was a short year, Eloy has not had a full season where he did not have a DL trip from running into a wall or player.

They are likely going to be sorry if they play him out there every day, at some point. He should split some time with Vaughn, not play the field every day.

patty

That was a lot of loud contact on kopech. Hoping he’s done for the day.

a-t

Timmy wasting no time. Vaughn making good on the breakout predictions so farโ€ฆ Kopech still needs to ramp up, visibly tiring some.

tommytwonines

I know heโ€™ll slump sometime later this year, but we can end the Vaughn trade talk, right?

a-t

yeah lol. A lot of people were remarkably ready to declare him a bust or mismanaged development or whatever after an incredibly aggressive promotion to the bigs last year. Of course, if he had been sent to AAA and raked in Charlotteโ€™s tiny ballpark, there would have been hollering about service time manipulation. Prospect expectations are a little dementedโ€ฆ if prospects are challenged with aggressive promotions to the bigs, theyโ€™re likely to struggle for a while at first before they adjust.

md03

He would need some big major league returns. But if he keeps doing what heโ€™s doing at this age, heโ€™s gotta be considered part of the core.

Yolmer

Tanner Banks looks pretty decent actually.

a-t

welcome to the bigs mr. banks… if you keep throwing 94 with command of two secondaries, you’ll stick around up here
