Has any high end prospect been screwed over worse then Andrew Vaughn…let the guy freaking play

Foulkelore

Yeah, I’m with you. I get it – Sheets is probably a better option vs. RHP right now, but with Vaughn’s pedigree, he needs to be in the lineup as much as possible. His side of the platoon only gets about 30% of the starts, so it can’t be a straight platoon. Rookie hitters often struggle with same-side pitching. He needs to be in the lineup most days to develop against RHP. If it gets to be later in the season, and he’s still struggling against RHP, they can switch to a platoon.

With 3/5 of their rotation now being Keuchel, Lopez, Velasquez, they are going to need all the offense they can get. They can’t sit Sheets (or Pollock) in favor of Vaughn vs RHP. Hitting vs RHP hs been their primary nemesis since the start of 2020.

Vaughn will play 100 percent vs lefties, and get spot starts vs RHP resting Eloy, Abreu, Pollock. Plus injuries. There is just no way to get him in there every day, unless he learns how to play 2b or 3b, or someone gets hurt, or slumps. If Sheets doesn’t hit well then maybe you send him down and make a switch. If Sheets keeps mashing vs RHP, I don’t see how they can sit him in favor of Vaughn.

Right? There will be injuries this year.

At this rate, Vaughn might play 162 games. He might wind up pitching too, the next Ohtani!

calcetinesblancos

A rash of injuries is not an ideal way to start the season, but maybe we’ll be surprised by who steps up. It also won’t be the worst thing to get some of these green players some MLB action early in the season in case we need to turn to them later in the season. Could also create some trade value.

As you can see, I’m a glass half full guy, and thus looking for the positives. Go Sox, go Cease!

AshnodsCoupon

Our son Robert was born on Opening Day yesterday, with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning! We were watching the game together in the delivery room during labor. Only way it coulda been a better story is if Vaughn’s HR had held up.

He’s a big boy so maybe he’ll be a first baseman or a pitcher!

jorgefabregas

Congrats!

calcetinesblancos

Congrats. You didn’t go with “Robert Luis” by chance did you?

jorgefabregas

Eloy shook his butt at Mize before knocking in two runs. Has he been doing that before every pitch?

Foulkelore

And now Pollock is hurt. This is getting ridiculous.

jhomeslice

I don’t have a broadcast on, what happened to him?

DuckSnorting-CanofCorn

Looks like he pulled a hamstring.

Foulkelore

He rounded first base hard on a single to the outfield, then pulled up to return to first. He appeared to hurt his leg doing that (maybe a hamstring?).

jhomeslice

Wow, sorry to hear. I saw the game time temp is 40 degrees. That’s just terrible weather for that sort of thing. The idiots who make the schedules do this every year, have cold weather cities playing each other in early April, while warm weather teams like the Astros and Angels play each other rather than host teams from colder cities. Makes no freaking sense. Guys are going to get pulls in weather that’s too cold to play in.

Next weekend the Sox play the Rays. In Chicago! I mean how freaking stupid is that, why not play in Tampa? The Dodgers and Twins play next week – in Minnesota! The greedy bastards that the owners are, how have they not figured out that cold days in April have less fans, and that they lose attendance? They’ve been doing this for decades, I have just never understood how intelligence and even greed has not corrected this.

Foulkelore

Yep, they gave an update – tightness in right hamstring. He’s being further evaluated.

jorgefabregas

Early efforts at avoiding soft tissue injuries are going great

soxygen

It took Pollock less time to get hurt today than it did for me to find my MLB password…

As Cirensica

Man…Andrew Vaughn cannot hit righties. So uncomfortable he looked.

Foulkelore

This is mostly true so far, and may end up being true overall, but it’s too early in his career to brand him with that. There was a stretch last year from June 18th to August 5th where he hit .306/.358/.541 against RHP over 109 PAs (142 wRC+). That’s a small sample size, but it at least shows that he has the potential to hit RHP. What I’m hoping is that he developed last year, started getting comfortable, but his hip issues in August were primarily responsible for the struggles the rest of the season. It’s also possible the small amount of success vs. RHP was a fluke, but we need this year to inform what Vaughn is.

Foulkelore

See, now he’s hitting .333 against RHP this year (j/k).

Foulkelore

Yaz!

Foulkelore

That’s a huge error. Leury’s been awful so far. I can’t wait until Tim’s back tomorrow.

As Cirensica

Oh Leury…slow runners everywhere and you couldn’t make an out

LuBob DuRob

Looked like he still had plenty of time to go to 2nd for the slowest player in baseball. Not sure what he was thinking.

Augusto Barojas

I will go out on a limb and predict that ReyLo is not going to have much success when they need him as a starter. I never really bought into his brief success last year being meaningful.

calcetinesblancos

I can’t believe they asked Burger to bunt. I mean I can, but it’s so stupid.

I love the simple joys in life. Beautiful sunsets. A well prepared meal. The White Sox running into an out at the plate on the contact play.

Foulkelore

Huh, sticking with Lopez after he struggled mightily last inning? Cool.

jhomeslice

1 inning, two hits, two walks. Vintage Lopez.

Foulkelore

Nice play by Jose.

Foulkelore

The first base ump must be really cold and wants to go home, because Engel definitely checked there. Oh well, get three more outs and finish this one.

HouseOfTheRisingSox

Interesting to go to Bummer here

jhomeslice

It worked out. It doesn’t make TLR smart. Just two games and I’m already lamenting why they couldn’t have picked ANYBODY else to manage. I think one year of him was more than punishment enough.

I used to find his last name a lot funnier than I do now.

mikeyb

Has Aaron Bummer ever gotten ahead of a hitter?

LuBob DuRob

Bummer starting to remind me of Fry

LuBob DuRob

Nice turnaround to shut it down!
