SoxMike242 Championship Plan

PREAMBLE

First of all, thank you Mr. Reinsdorf for upping the payroll and allowing us to add to this already amazing team. We feel with the new additions to the 2022 team are exactly what we need to get us over that hump. Now let’s take a look at how the 2022 White Sox shape up.

ARBITRATION-ELIGIBLE PLAYERS

  • Lucas Giolito: 6 Years $132 Million / $22 Million Per Year
  • Reynaldo Lopez: $2.8M – Tender
  • Evan Marshall: $2.3M – Non Tender
  • Adam Engel: $2.2M – Tender
  • Brian Goodwin: $1.7M – Non Tender
  • Jimmy Cordero: $1.2M – Non Tender
  • Jace Fry: $1M – Non Tender

CLUB OPTIONS

Write “pick up” or “decline” or “rework” after the option.

  • Craig Kimbrel: $16M ($1M Buyout) – Pickup & Trade
  • Cesar Hernandez: $6M – Decline

OTHER IMPENDING FREE AGENTS

Try to retain, or let go?

  • Leury Garcia: ($3.5M Option) – Pick Up
  • Carlos Rodon: ($3M) – Let go
  • Billy Hamilton: ($1M) – Let go love ya Billy we will invite you to spring training
  • Ryan Tepera: ($950K) – Retain 3 Years $12M / 22’ $3M, 23’ $4M, 24’ $5M

FREE AGENTS

List free-agent targets you’d pursue during the offseason, with a reasonable contract. A good example of a bad idea:

  • Max Scherzer – 2 Years $36M w/Club Option for 3rd Year $15M / $51,000,000 This would be Scherzer’s last contract in baseball. He’ll be 40 when this contract runs out and hopefully 2-3 World Series titles in the bank and he can retire on a beach somewhere. He is exactly what the Sox need a veteran pitcher to add to this staff after losing Keuchel in a trade.
  • Chris Taylor – 4 Years / $28,000,000 Second base needs an upgrade in a bad way and Chris is a perfect fit for this White Sox team. Taylor’s primary spot will be playing 2nd but he can also play multiple others in a pinch if needed.
  • Joc Pederson – 4 Years / $32,000,000 Joc wants to play regularly even against LHP. Well, you want it Joc you got it. I would still sit him against really tough lefties.
  • Daniel Hudson – 1 Year / $3,000,000 Bring him home to where it all started.

TRADES

Propose trades that you think sound reasonable for both sides, and the rationale behind them. A good example of a bad idea:

Craig Kimbrel to San Diego for Anyone: San Diego has a plethora of minor leaguers to choose from. The more cash the Sox pick up the better the prospect will be.

Dallas Keuchel, Ryan Burr & Jonathan Stiever to LA Angels for Jo Adell: To say the Angels need pitching is an understatement. I actually think Dallas could pitch well at Angels stadium. Adell has been a huge disappointment for LA and a change of scenery might do him some good. Burr is a solid bullpen piece and there is no room on the White Sox for Stiever.

SUMMARY

Again, I want to thank you Mr. Reinsdorf for trusting us to bring you a championship team for 2022. However, the payroll cap you provided us with @ $170MM for 2022 wasn’t feasible. Our payroll is $181,216,000.00, now before you say why did we go over. We got rid of some bad expiring contracts in Kimbrel and Keuchel. We feel we received some good specs for not having to pay any of Kimbrel’s contract. We acquired a former top spec in baseball in Jo Adell and feel under our coaching we can tap into that potential he was once highly touted for. Our top priority this offseason was a veteran starting pitcher to replace Keuchel and we feel we landed the best one in Scherzer. His resume speaks for itself, and with him leading our already excellent staff for 2022. On the offensive side we have had two glaring holes in RF and 2nd base, Taylor and Joc who are both championship players will fill those holes. To finish off the additions we have added a former White Sox player in Daniel Hudson who will fit into our bullpen quite nicely.
