Qubort Offseason Plan
My plan has Vaughn starting the year in AAA. I came in right at the budget of $170 million. I weakened the rotation in the name of offense. The top of the rotation is fine but an extra BIG bat could turn this team into a juggernaut.
ARBITRATION-ELIGIBLE PLAYERS
- Lucas Giolito:Â $7.9MÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Tender
- Reynaldo López; $2.8M    Tender
- Evan Marshall: $2.3MÂ Â Â Â Â Non Tender
- Adam Engel: $2.2MÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Tender
- Brian Goodwin: $1.7MÂ Â Â Â Â Non Tender
- Jimmy Cordero: $1.2MÂ Â Â Â Non Tender
- Jace Fry: $1MÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Non Tender
CLUB OPTIONS
- Craig Kimbrel: $16M ($1M buyout) Buyout. If Rick thinks he can flip him for some random prospects, then pick up the option and do so. But for this exercise I’m just getting his number off the books
- César Hernández: $6M   Hard pass
OTHER IMPENDING FREE AGENTS

- Carlos Rodón ($3M) Give QO to and collect the draft pick when he signs elsewhere

- Ryan Tepera ($950K)Â Â Resign 2 years / $9 million
FREE AGENTS
No. 1: Nick Castellanos 4 years / $80 million
RF has had stop gaps for over a decade. Just fix it.
No. 2: Manny Pina 1 year / $2 million
Essentially all the money is spent on Castellanos. Any veteran catcher on the cheap will do here.
No. 3 Jose Quintana 1 year/ $6 million
A lefty is needed and on the cheap. I don’t really like the thought of bringing Q back, but there’s not a lot of options that fit the criteria.
TRADES
No. 1: Trade Dallas Kuechel/Yermin/Collins to the Cardinals for Paul DeJong
DeJong had a down year but is going to be only 28 and was a 5+ WAR player just 2 seasons ago. His salary of $6 million also fits into our budget and the Cards seem to have other options they prefer. They’re not scared of aging pitchers and in this world the DH is added to the NL with the new CBA, adding to Yermin trade value. Molina is aging and Collins can give them organizational depth.
