Regarding Kimbrel’s buyout amount, he actually needed 53 Games Finished (GF), as opposed to Games Pitched (G), in 2021 for it to increase to $2M. Since he only had 43 GF, his buyout remains at $1M.

If he’d reached 55 GF, I think his 2022 option would have been guaranteed. I’m not sure if they pro-rated the GF from 2020, though. Talk about dodging a bullet there.
