Lenyn Sosa (Sox Machine)

With a fresh week upon us, three of the four full-season affiliates had exciting promotions to announce:

  • Charlotte: Received RHP Kade McClure.
  • Birmingham: Received SS Lenyn Sosa
  • Winston-Salem: Received SS Jose Rodriguez and OF Caberea Weaver
  • Kannapolis: Received RHP Taylor Broadway

There are no new faces yet on Kannapolis’ box score or roster, although the team’s roster isn’t updated online.

We discussed four of these in Farm Fortnight, but Weaver is one I didn’t anticipate. He was hitting .209/.305/.340 with a 35-percent strikeout rate with 17 stolen bases in 22 attempts. He had some weeks that were markedly better than the average and hinted at a greater breakout, but because you know how averages work, you know that he also had weeks that dragged him down, including the last two.

Charlotte 3, Jacksonville 2

  • Blake Rutherford went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
  • Yermín Mercedes singled and struck out thrice.
  • Gavin Sheets made his return to Triple-A, homering, doubling and striking out twice.
  • Micker Adolfo was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

*Sheets got on top of high heat:

Birmingham 4, Chattanooga 3

  • Romy Gonzalez wore the golden sombrero.
  • Yolbert Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Carlos Pérez went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk.
  • Lenyn Sosa made his Double-A debut at second base, going 0-for-3 with an HBP.

Greensboro 5, Winston-Salem 4

  • Jose Rodriguez hit a sac fly and struck out four times in his High-A debut.
  • Yoelqui Céspedes went 2-for-4, both doubles.
  • Luis Mieses was 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
  • Luis Curbelo went 1-for-3 with his 17th homer, a walk and a strikeout.
  • Caberea Weaver also got the bump, going 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Augusta 5, Kannapolis 1

  • Wilber Sanchez singled and struck out thrice.
  • Bryan Ramos was 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
  • Harvin Mendoza went 0-for-4.
  • DJ Gladney was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.
  • Chase Krogman walked once and struck out twice.
  • James Beard homered and struck out twice.
  • Andrew Dalquist: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 1 WP
  • Taylor Broadway’s debut: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

*Beard’s homer:

  • Elijah Tatis went 1-for-3 with a strikeout.
  • Misael Gonzalez was 1-for-3.
  • Benyamin Bailey singled and struck out twice.
  • Jefferson Mendoza, 0-for-2 with a walk and a K.
  • Wilfred Veras was 0-for-2 with a K.

  • Colson Montgomery went 0-for-3 with a walk.
  • Wes Kath singled twice, walked and struck out.
  • Benyamin Bailey went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.
  • It’s all downhill from here, Terrell Tatum: 2-for-2 with a homer and two walks.
  • Elijah Tatis was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.
  • Brooks Gosswein: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Wonder if Grandal might be about to start a rehab assignment in the coming days (perhaps this weekend with Winston-Salem?)

It will be Birmingham. There is other important news in that tweet as well.

LaRussa mentioned it is likely to be longer than the minimum stay. I can’t tell if he is actually hurting or if this is a gimmick to rest him up for the playoffs.

Rodon to the 10 day IL

Not sure about the Knights’ hashtags, #FunKnights #ArmorUp. With those letters in that order, my eye initially tricked me into reading something more like #F**Ks*Up

Greg Nix

Yoelqui’s last 21 games: .938 OPS, 22% K rate.

The Giants like White Sox outfielders. They are hoping this works out better than the Basabe claim.
