White Sox Minor Keys: Aug. 1, 2021

Regions Field in Birmingham

Before the weekend came to a close, the White Sox shuffled some affiliate rosters resulting in two notable promotions.

Luis Mieses: The outfielder gets a second crack at Winston-Salem after hitting .305/.347/.463 over 225 plate appearances at Kannapolis, with a measly 14.7 percent strikeout rate. He’d looked overmatched when starting the season with the Dash — .155/.189/.366, 19 strikeouts in 74 plate appearances — but he picked up a couple of hits in his return to High-A on Sunday. Perhaps he just needed a couple months to get his feet under him.

Caleb Freeman: The 15th round pick in the 2019 draft and posted a 3.62 ERA and struck out 33 batters against 14 walks over 27โ…“ innings with the Dash. Seven consecutive walkless outings was enough to get him a promotion to Birmingham, and he opened with his most dominant outing at either level thus far, striking out four over two perfect innings.

Freeman’s promotion leaves the Dash without any pitching prospects of note, and that’s reflected in their recent slump. They’ve lost eight of nine, they’ve allowed 8.9 runs per game over that stretch, and they won their only game by a score of 9-8.
