I noticed that all 5 starters have at least 7 runs, so there’s a pretty good chance that all 5 will end with double digit wins (health willing of course). How often has that happened?

Moncada on the bases…oof. Horrible decision to tag there. That was a tailor-made 9-5 double play.

Vaughn is going to be a good one

jhomeslice

He may be primed to be a much better hitter in the 2nd half than the first. His overall numbers vs RHP are still weak but his OPS vs RHP is over 100 points higher than like 3 weeks ago (was under.500), so he is definitely improving. Avg up over .250 is good to see.

dwjm3

Yeah I think you are spot on. I expect him to be better in the second half.

jhomeslice

I just checked, his OPS vs RHP on June 15 was .494. Since then, his OPS vs RHP is .860, not including today. 1.14 since June 28. Sure seems like he is really figuring it out vs RHP.

Vaughn didn’t crush the 2nd homer like the first but it was off a right-handed pitcher and I’ll take it!

Might be time to retire the Eaton promo for NBC Sports Chicago

Josh Nelson

I laugh every time.

I wish Jason & Steve wouldn’t say things like “Fry and Foster warming up in the pen.”

jhomeslice

No kidding. I think becoming clearer that the pen is their biggest need. With Eloy coming back and eventually Robert, along with Vaughn being much improved, plus Engel/Goodwin being vastly better than Eaton was, I think their need for offensive upgrade at 2b or OF is much less than their bullpen.

Willardmarshall

Tryouts for Charlotte pen have been competitive….

Nick Turley has been pretty damn good. ERA in 1.3’s in 20+ games, good K rate. Is AAA, but still, that’s killing it and worth giving a shot over Foster.
