It took 12 years, but Brian Goodwin finally played a game for the organization that originally drafted him.
Goodwin, signed by the White Sox a couple days ago in the wake of Luis Robert’s hip flexor injury, was rostered in Charlotte for what could be a tune-up if all goes well. He took the place of Luis González, who went on the injured list with a mild back injury, and he made his first start at DH.
He went 1-for-3 with a double and a strikeout. He won a lefty-lefty matchup for his hit, splitting the left-center gap on a breaking ball.
Gwinnett 19, Charlotte 1
- Felix Paulino didn’t make it out of the first inning: 0.2 IP, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 HR
- Tyler Johnson struggled again: 1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K with four wild pitches.
- Joe DeCarlo made the pitching position player a sad thing: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 1 HR
- Blake Rutherford went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
- Gavin Sheets had a rough day, going 0-for-4 with two errors at first base.
- Brian Goodwin DH’d and went 1-for-3 with a double and a strikeout.
Notes:
*The Knights issued 12 walks, or one fewer base on balls than the Barons yielded in the sixth inning on Thursday. That’s kind of nuts.
*DeCarlo retired the first two batters he faced, then walked three in a row, followed by a Matt Reynolds error. A Yolmer Sánchez two-run double opened the floodgates.

I am not a fan of flashing the stadium lights on homeruns that is apparently done at Kanny and Sox Park. Maybe it looks good in the stadium, but in my opinion it makes the homer seem anticlimactic on TV.
James Beard should be stealing bases literally every time he’s on base in my opinion.
Also, I always knew Bailey was described as a “physical specimen” but my lord he looks 6’11” in that video not 6’4″
I’m not excited about this minor league system. Maybe the prep arms, but position player prognosis is “meh”.
rooting for Brian – cause it will be a good win if he’s good and the Sox win. which begs the question how much win could a Goodwin win if a Goodwin could win good?
