Brilliant managing by La Russa. Happ’s pitch count was getting too high too early, meaning he might be taken out of the game, leaving our good hitters no opportunity to hit off of him again. So, order consecutive hitters to bunt directly into outs to keep him in the game longer.
Wow, two people took this seriously. Next time I will push my tongue further into my cheek. I don’t think he actually ordered the bunts, nor do I have a problem with anything tonight. It’s been fun so far.
And Mercedes takes his 47.1 mph offering deep on a 3-0 count at a 109.3 mph exit velocity. So, that begs the question: is that the greatest difference ever in exit velocity over pitch speed?
It will surprise absolutely nobody to hear that Willians Astudillo's 47.1 mph eephus against Yermín Mercedes was the slowest pitch ever tracked by Statcast to be hit for a homer.
Second 2.3x on record since they started tracking exit velos. No one had been recorded hitting a pitch below 50 MPH harder than 103 MPH and this thing exceeded 109. 🦇😮 https://t.co/dQ25aOcdB6
I need a framed print of JA Happ’s face after Madrigal took him deep
Can’t believe. And right after talking about the ballpark swallowing home runs.

Maybe they decided to bunt on their own?
so… it worked??

or maybe you need to re-calibrate your sarcasm detector
You got greedy, Billy
Yeah, I’d be upset with him making that decision with nobody out if it weren’t 10-1.
Didn’t Grandal just have a game recently where he had 4 or 5 plate appearances without an at bat? That’s 4 for 4 without an at bat tonight.
Yeah, there it is – May 1st he had 4 walks in 4 plate appearances against Cleveland.
Last time it happened, I suggested we start calling a 0-0 game with 3+ walks a “Grandal”—like the hitting version of a Maddux.
I like it.
A fourth walk – the Grandal stays alive!
I am now “blessed” to have Keith Richards “singing” Gonna Walk Before They Make Me Run stuck in my head. How did that happen? Thanks Yasmani.
Grandal absolutely refuses to record a hit and we have to respect his life choices
Mercy rule in effect?
In what might be a portent of late-season lineups, Andrew Vaughn has moved to right field to finish the game.
Yep, I like this. If all goes well with getting guys healthy, finding out if Vaughn can play a competent RF will be very important.
I think he actually looked more comfortable in RF. Interesting…
Astudillo Pitched

Does anyone have the 2020 win/loss record after 40 games? Can’t recall if they were more than 10 games over .500 at that point last year
