Yeah, I think if Adam doesn’t shove him it gets overturned.
Is that not a reviewable play? Jason & Steve said something about it being “incidental” but I’m not sure why that should matter if the player removes you from the base.
Watched the clip on GameDay and it was from the Cleveland feed. They were adamant that Eaton was acting crazy and had nothing to stir sh*t about. I don’t know why but I’m quite bothered by blind followship and ignorant team support.
That said, Pierzynski’s strike three call was TOTALLY a dropped third strike and his heads up play CLEARLY earned him first base 🙂
>Madrigal
>Misses a 90mph fastball middle middle
>Hits an 85mph changeup in the dirt for an infield single
At this point I don’t even know what’s going on. I assume this is how they played in the 1901 season.
Umm…t-that wasn’t an error that was a calculated trick to get the slower Ramirez on the 1st base bag….yeah that’s the strategy. No errors or miscommunication here.
Sox hitters getting some decent hits off of Civale but they’re all lined towards Cleveland defenders. We need Abroo to tatoo one of these slow fastballs.
Lynn looks good. Would Texas have taken Cease instead of Dunning in that trade? Anything can happen in the next five years but Dane seems so much more reliable.
Hopefully, that’s it for Civale today and also hopefully the Cleveland bullpen is shot from covering 9 innings last night and we get some good looks at lesser relievers.
Correct my math if wrong, but I believe the Sox are now 0-6 when trying to get one game over .500. This team is like feeling the need to sneeze but then it goes away after you were sure you were gonna let loose.
Nice 1-2-3 inning from the Big Boy . Nice to see Vaughn able to make these semi routine plays.
Edit: I checked statcast and that was NOT routine at all. It was a 102mph liner with a .610 expected batting average.
I missed the play in the corner that apparently didn’t look good, but Vaughn’s looked great out there, considering the circumstances.
Eaton didn’t help his cause with the shove, but i thought it was pretty clear that Adam’s arm was lifted off the bag.
I saw the replay. That was some bullshit.
Yes It was such bullshit that I feel like his retaliatory shove became a factor in the decision.

agreed, incidental or not. Shouldn’t make a difference.

(and I missed the pitch but Civale should CLEARLY be tossed after retaliating with the beanball)

You can smell the corn liquor.
Works carnivals in the offseason. For a dime you get three chances to throw a ball he can’t hit
>Lance Lynn throws low 90s middle middle and gets swings and misses
“Excellent spin rate fastball, Lance Lynn is elite”
>Civale throws low 90s middle middle and gets swings and misses
“WTF? why do our hitters suck?”
Ha!…. I know that building in Montreal

I think Benetti just made a reference to the math teacher from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory, not the Johnny Depp one. Edit: Maths teacher.
It was at the beginning of the 4th when he asked Stone to calculate what percentage of the Sox 20 no-hitters were thrown by Buehrle.
“i can’t figure out two!!”

With Lynn and Kopech next, we have all the runs we need.
*I hope this ages well.
I wonder if Kopech will be saved for a start tomorrow in what would then be a bullpen game.
Reminds me of Bob Gibson: Whenever the Cardinals scored 1 run his catcher would be like “Okay roomie, Hold ’em”
It did not.
????

Dane looks to have a very high floor as a pitcher but Cease has such a high ceiling, I would have been disappointed if he was traded.
I rather have Cease. He has nastier stuff, better health track record and Cease is 1 year younger than Dunning.
Well, I wanted Quintana back instead of Rodón, so there’s that. Good to be wrong sometimes (but it’s April 15th, too).

Crochet looks like he needs an oxygen tank on the mound. Just me?
No, he certainly doesn’t look as overpowering as he used to. But had some bad luck that inning with some really soft grounders for hits.
Looked like he had a play at the plate, oh well.
You know, you’d expect the team by now to try and pocket the ball instead of force close plays.
Abreu needs a day off
IIRC, he spent a decent chunk of time at DH in ’19. I would think the same would be warranted this season to keep him rested and healthy.
Vaughn is already a much better left fielder than Eloy. What a play!
“Sorry Eloy, but your LF career is over. This is my position now”
I dunno about much better, but certainly a more aware player who can make plays and not be a danger to himself and others… so yeah, maybe much better.
He also has a better arm and doesn’t double pump on every throw back in.
>Expected batting Average on that fly ball= .010
When you’re Yermin, the odds don’t matter.
