Paxton coming out with an injury. This sets up a potentially odd scenario. Vaughn could get his first major league hit from an at bat against two pitchers.
I always considered the “yips” as something routine that a player used to have no problem with and then all of a sudden can’t anymore (like catcher who couldn’t throw the ball back to the pitcher). I don’t think he’s played enough to know if he’s going through something like that, is just bad, or hopefully, just needs more time to get settled.
It’s small potatoes in the grand scheme, but Gio really only had 1 earned run that inning. The score keeper hosed him

Excepting Vaughn because it’s stupid he has to man left in the first place, this start of the season has been some of the sloppiest defense I can remember. Maybe my expectations are higher because this is the most cromulent roster we’ve had in years, but despite all the talk of how prepared and regimented TLR was it’s not showing up on the field at all

There you go, kid. Now get comfortable and on a roll.
If the defense were competent, every single SP would last another inning.

Nice recovery even though it still looks like he’s laboring.

If there’s one thing that drives me completely insane it’s a reliever coming out of the pen and walking the first guy he faces. Especially with a bad defense.

Frankly I do think José’s 54 grand slams pace is sustainable
At the game, awesome to watch in person again.
Very cool!

Rodón has outlasted at least one of the free agent lefties the Sox could’ve signed.
Good job, Zach
I give him a C+.
He gets the “Keep it up!” sticker
Giolito in full sicko mode. It’d be scary if this wasn’t a game and he weren’t on our side. Well, it’s still a little unsettling.
Nick…still brutal
Are the defensive yips a thing and does Madrigal have them?

We’re all pulling for Madrigal, but he’s a major league toddler who needs a Time Out.
Well, an average LF makes that easy. On the other hand, I have no idea if Eloy would have.
This inning is just amateur hour
Oh, holy hell, the defense this inning is just atrocious.
Lucas’s 4 seamer at 91….not a good sign.
So, that’s 4 outs that Giolito should have with average defense, and there’s 1 on the board?
Dear god, this team’s defense…
I feel bad for Giolito. What a s**t show.

Oh certainly. Especially after Tim A. is back so there are more hitters ahead of him to get the bases loaded for him. I think 54 is a lower limit.
