I’m trying to read between the lines in the second paragraph responding to Derek’s question but I still can’t figure out how Jim is feeling about the TLR situation

Two things:

1. The MiLB issue seems to be one where the owners are imposing their will on basically everyone else. The messages from the front offices around baseball seems to be that, if anything, they want more minor league affiliates and more players. Players want more opportunities (although I don’t think that the MLBPA is going to make any real concessions in defense of the minor leagues). The public and policymakers are against it.

2. If the Sox are going to make a big trade, they need to do something a la the Brewers c. 2018. Add to a surplus (like signing Cain) and then dealing from that surplus (Brinson) for a controllable star (Yelich). The issue with discussing trades now is that they haven’t make their “Lorenzo Cain signing” yet and currently pretty much everyone with trade value also has value to the 26-man roster in the near future.
