And his day is over. Four walks, one HBP, no strikeouts. Not a recipe for success against a hot lineup, but I suppose the damage could have been worse than 4-0.
I had similar thoughts. Even though McCann has been very good, I can’t imagine he’d be too expensive to resign. It might come down to whether McCann wants to be sharing as much time with Grandal, or wants to go somewhere to be the clear number one catcher. I’d be all for having extreme catcher depth.
Some team in dire need of a catcher will pay McCann next year to a three or four-year deal the Sox can’t match. I can’t see him being re-signed with the Grandal contract/commitment.

It’s so refreshing to have nice things again. That being said, did it look like Eloy got hurt during the celebration?
Jose Abreu’s slugging percentage is higher than 7 of the Pirates hitters’ OPS. We’re going to our score them by at least 10 runs in this series.
Um, am I the only one getting rain delay theater when the MLB app shows the game is still going?
I am too. I don’t get it. I love Thome and all, but….
Technical difficulties at the park:
Thank you
My mlb.tv went to commercial, but it’s back now with no audio on announcers.
You are not alone … power outage according to pirates broadcast, which came back about a minute before the Sox telecast did
Frustrating that we missed three runs scoring. Glad it’s fixed now, though.
I too was frustrated to not see the three runs score but in the end I feel that was not the most exciting thing about this game.
Brault just walked his fourth hitter. We are in the top of the third.

Tim Anderson developing a legit power swing has been a wonderful cherry on top of being a batting title competitor.
Giolito has been good-ish
A no hitter would be nice, but I’d be almost as happy with a Maddux.
Nine strikeouts. So many changeups.
Aside from that one walk to Gonzalez…..yeah.
Ten strikeouts, 76 pitches through seven.
Twelve strikeouts, 89 pitches through eight, and this game is now getting mentioned in other broadcasts.
That change for the second strike to Dyson was cruel.
YES!
Just tuned in. Pretty uneventful night so far eh?
Yeah, Gio’s been ok, I guess.
101 pitches. Nice
Just missed a Maddux, but, y’know, still not a bad game!
Whew, that sinking line drive made my heart skip, but he did it! Awesome night, Lucas Giolito!!!
Let the magic continue!
the pitch made my heart stop. it was just hanging up there. whew!
awesome!
The cooler bath during the post-game interview seems like good practice given Yolmer’s imminent return.
I guess they are not going to mess with McCann catching all of Giolito’s games anymore this season.
Is there any chance that they try to re-sign McCann to continue to time share with Grandal, or is that too much to spend on the catcher position?

That was really something special to watch.
