Yoán Moncada returns before White Sox’s first night intrasquad game

For those who connected the dots between the two positive COVID-19 tests and the two injured list spots, well, fine work, gumshoes.

Yoán Moncada came off the injured list this evening, and in speaking to reporters, he confirmed that he was one of the Sox who tested positive. He said he was mostly asymptomatic, but he had reasons to remain quarantined in Chicago.

Assuming Moncada faces no other issues pertaining to the coronavirus, the only lingering concern is how fast and safely Moncada can get ready. He wasn’t able to do baseball activities while quarantined, so while he says he hopes to be in the lineup for Opening Day on July 24, Rick Renteria (who is back from a funeral) is going to see how he handles the ramp-up period for a few days before making any determinations.

José Ruiz, the other player on the injured list, also returned to the roster. He’s heading to train with the taxi squad in Schaumburg.

I believe he had to test negative twice to return, so hopefully he’s OK and past it (or as past it as you can be). Last week I was wondering if it was possible it was a false positive, and strictly precautionary, but to lose two of your senses sounds very real. In any event, great to see him back. Although the Mercedes experiment was fun, Sox need their best player to make a run here. Looking forward to tonight’s scrimmage.

Going to have to get used to the fake crowd noise.

metasox

i think I prefer a steady hum vs. some of the volume changes for anything not especially noteworthy

Simply put …..Great News !!!

Milky✌️

Tuning in now. How’s Cease looking?

asinwreck

Good. He struck out Yermin with two nasty hooks and a high fastball, and also struck out Andrew Vaughn. One walk so far, and Danny Mendick singled.

asinwreck

He’s gotten Vaughn twice in three innings. The curve is working for him.

asinwreck

Agreed. If he can repeat what he’s doing with his curve, the ERA will be lower than 5 in 2020.

asinwreck

Yermin just went down on three pitches – curve, fastball, slider. This is fun to watch.

asinwreck

Cease removed with two outs in the fifth. Eight strikeouts, and a whole lot of nasty breaking pitches.

asinwreck

Yermin is happy Cease is out of the game, and demonstrates his joy with a single.

Milky✌️

Nice plays by Madrigal there.

Grandal’s homer is the most damaging of the hard contact Reynaldo has given up.
