Sporcle Saturday: White Sox third basemen
With the Twins landing Josh Donaldson this week, the AL Central projects to have three pretty good players at third base this season between Donaldson, Jose Ramirez, and Sox incumbent Yoan Moncada. It will be fun to see Moncada build on last season’s success, and it will also mark the first time in quite awhile that the team will have the hot corner locked down by the same player in full, back-to-back seasons. “Quite awhile” takes us back to 2013-2014, and then before that a gap that went back to the 2006 season.
So, today, we’ll be examining third basemen throughout franchise history. Who played the most at third throughout the years? There are 57 entries on the list: how many can you name? Good luck!
Quiz Parameters
- To qualify, a player must have played at least 60% of their games at third AND played at least 130 games in a season for the team.
- I’ve allotted 15 minutes for completion attempts.
- For hints, I’ve provided the season and number of games played.
Useless information to amaze, annoy, confuse, and/or confound your friends and family:
- The average triple-slash of the players on this list: .265/.334/.401
- The most stolen bases from a player on this list came in 1966, with 51. (That player also led the league in caught stealing that season, with 22)
- Moncada’s .315 average last season qualified him for third-best on this list. (.331 is tops, coming in the 1920 season)
