White Sox Minor Keys: Aug. 28, 2019

The Arizona Fall League rosters came out today, and considering the myriad setbacks plaguing the White Sox farm system, it’s actually sending a pretty decent group to the Glendale Desert Dogs.

On the position-player side, Gavin Sheets will try to bolster his prospect status, Blake Rutherford will try to increase the impact of his contact, and a player to be named later — presumably Micker Adolfo — will try to be available.

Pitchingwise, Bernardo Flores (strained oblique) and Tyler Johnson (strained lat) both lost a big chunk of the season, so they’ll get a chance to catch up. Bennett Sousa, last year’s 10th-round pick, has had a nice year across two A-ball levels, with 71 strikeouts to 12 walks over 62 innings. He was recently promoted to Birmingham. He joins Vince Arobio, a 24th-round pick who also dominated both A-ball levels, but is now finding Double-A hitters much tougher to retire.

Durham 3, Charlotte 2

  • Nick Madrigal went 0-for-4.
  • Luis Robert was 1-for-4 with a homer and two strikeouts.
  • Zack Collins, 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
  • Yermin Mercedes singled thrice and struck out once.
  • Seby Zavala went 1-for-3 with a strikeout and HBP, and was caught stealing.
  • Danny Mendick went 1-for-3 with a homer and a strikeout.
  • Carson Fulmer: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K

*Charlotte’s lead in the wild card is down to one game, and Durham now holds the tiebreaker after the sweep.

*Robert’s shot:

Winston-Salem 12, Salem 3

  • Steele Walker went 1-for-5 with his 10th homer.
  • Andrew Vaughn was 2-for-5 with a homer and two strikeouts.
  • Konnor Pilkington: 7 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 HR

*The highlights:

Kannapolis 3, Hagerstown 1

  • Lenyn Sosa went 1-for-3 with a double and a strikeout.
  • Corey Zangari was 0-for-2 with a walk.
  • Amado Nunez, 0-for-3.

Idaho Falls 6, Great Falls 2

  • Cabera Weaver went 1-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout.
  • Harvin Mendoza was 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
  • Lency Delgado doubled, singled twice and got plunked.
  • Luis Mieses was 1-for-3 with a double and a sac fly.
  • Sam Abbott wore the collar and the silver sombrero.
  • Anderson Comas and Kelvin Maldonado both were 0-for-4.
  • Yoelvin Silven’s Great Falls debut: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Oppo laser for robert… oh baby!

Does this mean no September call up for Johnson?

(and thanks for the answer)

Sounds like Frank Thomas may have spilled the beans on what Hahn already hinted – Robert not coming up in Sep
