White Sox Minor Keys: April 19, 2019
Wet weather across the South and mid-Atlantic is probably going to make a real mess out of the White Sox affiliates’ schedules, but Birmingham and Kannapolis were able to get games in, with the Barons starting to resemble a team on a roll.
Birmingham 7, Jacksonville 2
- Joel Booker went 1-for-4 with a walk, strikeout and stolen base.
- Laz Rivera needed this: 3-for-5 with a double, although he was caught stealing.
- Luis Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with a strikeout.
- Gavin Sheets, 1-for-3 with two walks and a strikeout.
- Micker Adolfo went 1-for-5 with a double and two strikeouts.
- Blake Rutherford went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
- Ti’Quan Forbes, 1-for-3 with a walk.
More:
*Booker also made this play:
Hagerstown 13, Kannapolis 4
- Lenyn Sosa, Luis Curbelo and Bryce Bush all were 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
- Konnor Pilkington: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 7 K, 1 HR
Luis Robert should be moving up, to the next level if not the majors. Joel Booker also should be moving up, while Adam Engel should be demoted.
I think they’re gonna want to keep Engel around a little bit longer as the 4th outfielder.
He’s next to worthless with the bat, but he’s likely the best defensive outfielder they have at either Chicago or Charlotte.
They can release either Tucker or Guyer from Charlotte to get start the train that’ll get Booker to Charlotte, Robert to Birmingham, and possibly Walker to Winston-Salem.
Engel as an 7th/8th inning pinch-runner or defensive replacement is actually pretty useful. It’d be even better if they had a 7-man bullpen tho…
When you have a 3-man bench, Engel cannot be one of the three. Especially when Jay comes back, Jay is an adequate enough CF that Engel would not be necessary. He brings absolutely nothing to the table offensively. If they had a 7-man bullpen and a 4-man bench, then I could see keeping Engel. But that won’t happen any time soon, so Engel needs to go.
It would also be nice if your pinch-runner was actually a good base runner.
I know he’s coming off an injury but Adolfo’s strike out rate is insane right now. Was reading hoping he could be a RF of the future.
Also is there any news if Burger and Basabe are going to be cleared by June and where they will start?
García, Anderson, Moncada, Jiménez (DH), Robert, Collins (1B), Madrigal, Zavala, Basabe
Some time next year. A free agent/trade would help.
FYI, Ted Williams made his major-league debut on this day in 1939. It looks like a clear case of service-time manipulation.
Awesome. Thank you.
