White Sox Minor Keys: April 17, 2019
Our Man in Charlotte North Carolina Jonathan Lee headed up to Winston-Salem to check out the last game of the Dash’s homestand.
He caught up with Luis Robert and Nick Madrigal before the game, with Anthony Santiago assisting with Robert’s answers.
Robert, on his adjustment: “I definitely feel a lot more comfortable with the system now, how everything works here in the US. My English has gotten a lot better.”
Madrigal, on his slow start: “I felt good all last week, too, when I played. I think the ball’s just starting to fall, you know? I felt good in the games I didn’t get hits.”
Both players expressed indifference about a promotion, saying it was out of their control. If nothing, they’re staying within their games.
Jonathan also got a unique angle on Robert’s center field play:
Charlotte 5, Gwinnett 4
- Charlie Tilson cooled off with an 0-for-5 night, striking out once.
- Danny Mendick is back on track, with two singles and two walks.
- Zack Collins had none of the three true outcomes after going 3-for-4, and now he has three singles on the year.
- Jordan Stephens: 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
- Progress for Ian Hamilton: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Birmingham 5, Jacksonville 0
- Joel Booker had half of the Barons’ hits while going 3-for-4, though he was caught stealing.
- Luis Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a double.
- Laz Rivera and Gavin Sheets both went 0-for-4.
- So did Blake Rutherford, with a strikeout.
- Micker Adolfo was 0-for-2 with a walk, two strikeouts and an HBP. He was caught stealing.
- Bernardo Flores: 8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Wilmington 2, Winston-Salem 1
- Luis Robert went 1-for-4 with a stolen base.
- Nick Madrigal, 0-for-3.
- Carlos Perez, 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
- Blake Battenfield: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
Delmarva 2, Kannapolis 1
- Steele Walker went 0-for-3 with a walk, HBP and a strikeout.
- Amado Nunez, 0-for-3 with a walk, HBP and two strikeouts.
- Bryce Bush went 0-for-3 with two walks and a strikeout.
- Luis Curbelo wore the silver sombrero on a 0-for-5 day.
Appears Joel Booker will be the one going to Charlotte when Luis Robert moves up to Birmingham.ย
Maybe Cordell is on a plane to Detroit. He didn’t play in Charlotte
Yeah, he’s probably gonna be the one to replace Palka. Quite frankly, I didn’t think Cordell should’ve been demoted in the first place, but since he’s probably coming back, it’s alright.
Question now is how long do they wait to promote Booker to AAA (and make a corresponding move with one of the outfielders already in Charlotte) and then Robert to AA?
And then Steele Walker to High A
