Offseason grade:

Shingos Cheeseburgers

As punishment the Sox are being held back and are being forced to repeat the 2018 season

Let the relegation begin. KenWo’s semi-pro softball team would like a shot at promotion.

Can there be a worse grade than F-? Because their grade should be lower than that.

Holy crap. Listening to Hahn on 670 and he just said that he expects in the future that MLB players will come to the Sox for “less” because it is a desirable place to play.

How are the comments getting even worse? This is dire.

As Cirensica

He is now in the dreadful territory of someone who is incompetent, and delusional. Next stage, blame others/external factors for his own failures.

DuhSox

Even he can’t really believe that. That may be the worst statement of all the statements made thus far.

Sophist

“Eventually,” Hahn continued, “I’m imagining that players will want to play with the Sox for free. We’ll have to create some sort of application process to consider our options, though, if I had my druthers, I’d prefer a kind of ‘fight-club’ scenario to round out our roster.”

karkovice squad

“Eventually players will pay us for the opportunity to audition for free agent contracts with other teams.”

It’s the most disturbing of the statements made lately, because it states that continuing into the near future, one of two things is true:
1. The FO is completely delusional
2. The FO thinks we’re dumb sheep and is pessimistic about their chances of actually landing a high quality FA with money

Mood: “Maybe ESPN was right to forget about the White Sox?”

Joliet Orange Sox

This post was laugh-out-loud funny and insightful. Bravo!

I got one for ya, Jim: do you get the sense that Reinsdorf sees players as his primary competition, and not other owners? The latest word about them being out on Harper because they don’t want to jump in and drive up the price screamed collusion as much as anything I’ve heard.Feeling like 1994 all over again and Jerry’s MO doesn’t appear to have really changed since then.

I will still support this team because it’s ultimately about the players, not management. But we are going to Soxfest next year, and unless they make a MAJOR free agent acquisition next winter before Soxfest, I will lead a nonstop attack on Rick or Kenny or whoever in the front office shows up there. They can say all they want about being in the hunt for a major free agent. It was all a bald-faced lie. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I have been a White Sox fan since the early 60s, and this is the angriest I’ve ever been. It makes keeping Eloy down because of their cheapness look like nothing.

Trooper Galactus

If they haven’t signed a major free agent by then, or unless the young players REALLY surprise us in 2019, I kinda wonder if they’ll pull a Hoyer and just avoid the fan convention altogether.

This somehow got me from rage to laughter. Thanks, Jim!

What was the last bit of ‘good news’ about the Sox?
2 winning seasons in the past 10 years. Collapsing in the final two weeks of 2012. Starting out hot and completely crapping the bed in 2016 (bonus points for Tatis Jr/BGJ trade). Adam/Drake LaRoche saga. Chris Sale doing an Edward Scissorhands impression. Being completely forgotten about by ESPN and other major networks (multiple times). Machado/Harper (presumed) failure after spending two years saying they would spend the money when the time was right. Good news stories – the ACE program, look at that farm system (should have an * next to it because it meant they had to trade actual all stars to get there) and Danny Farquhar not dying on the mound last year. Anything else?

Eloy?

Lurker Laura

Without Machado, they raise the floor, they’re basically sentient Chicago 2016 Summer Olympics t-shirts.

This is in the team photo for my favorite Jim quotes of all time.

(I do have lots of sympathy for Alonso and Jay. None of this is their fault. But this is still awesome.)

Yeah…I foresee this rebuild going in the way of the 2012-2016 seasons. The Sox will have a solid core of players to build around, but then add fringe players to prevent from getting to the top. Just like Jim said several times…disheartening to think of Sale, Quintana, Abreu, Eaton (I wish we kept Semien) … and not being able to make the necessary moves to step forward.
