We’ll also use this post for an open thread for the draft in order to save front page space. We’ll also have Day 2 and Day 3 draftchats in the coming ays.
Aw yeah here we go. Come on Madrigal
Seconded.
I still get the feeling that Madrigal is going to go at #3, but if he’s there at 4 and Bart is gone (and I expect he will be), I would absolutely prefer him to Singer.
Let’s use this for the open thread while we’re at it.
Wonder why Callis/Mayo moved Singer to 9. Money thing or they sense Sox leaning Nicky.
No idea. Given the Reds seem a little thin in their farm system as far as pitching prospects go, I don’t know why they’d pass on Singer unless they’re SUPER high on Bohm or India. Given they have Eugenio Suarez at third now (and under control through 2025) and Nick Senzel in AAA (can play 2B/3B), I don’t see why they would go with another non-SS infielder instead of a top pitcher.
If the Sox actually manage to draft Nick Madrigal (5′-7″, 160, afro-impaired) who’s gonna break the bad news to KenWo?
Longenhagen just dropped Fangraphs 3.1. Mize, Bart, Bohm, Singer, Madrigal.
Still no rumored top 10 deals. Looks like Sox not going High School kid under slot.
Alec Bohm looks like Edge. I like him now.
Going by FG chat. Looks like it’d be KW as the one who wanted Singer, if he’s chosen.
Casey Mize goes #1, as expected.
There goes Mize
Joey Bart to SF. Collins and Seby can exhale.
Bart gone. Here we go. Phils go Bohm or Madrigal?
Nuts…I was really hoping Bart would fall to the White Sox. Oh well.
Me too. As long as they take one of the top 5 guys I’ll be fine.
As expected there goes Bart to the Giants
Man, I was hoping for some draft day shenanigans. Now I have to start taking mock drafts as gospel.
Lil Jimmy fave, Matt McLain rumored to be a tough sign. Going to College.
I’ve accepted that Kenny Williams still out rules everybody. Kyler Murray, welcome to the White Sox.
I think the Royals get him and use some of that insane bonus pool to lure him away from OK, but I’d love to pick up Murray if he is still around at #46
Absolutely. I was just joking because that’s a Kenny Williams kind of pick (except he actually looks like he can play baseball in addition to football). He would be fantastic if they could sign him at 46, but I don’t think that happens.
Word is A’s will be taking him at #9.
I’m shocked. He is good but not top-10 good, and it seems like the draw of being a QB would make him harder to sign. Guess they worked out a good deal with him though.
He wasn’t considered a top-10 pick, so chances are he wasn’t expecting to be offered $4 million+ dollars this yea. Unless they try to get him WAY under slot, I don’t see how he turns down that kind of money, especially since he’d be risking millions playing another season of college football.
Word is he’s still going to try to play football this fall…
Is he not going to sign before then? That seems like a really stupid risk to take with this kind of money on the table.
Larry Bowa looks undead.
Well, looks like the Madrigal vs. Singer drama will be playing out in the White Sox war room after all.
Here we go – Singer or Madrigal?
Alright looks like we’ve got our choice of Singer v Madrigal
There goes Bohm, come on Madrigal
Bohm to Philly. 1b of the future remains open. Collins and Burger can exhale.
Bad hands on Bohm. Dropped the hat.
The calm before the storm…
2 more minutes…
Welcome to Chicago, Nick Madrigal!
Hell yes
Madrigal!
MADRIGAL!!!
MADRIGAL!!!!
YES! So excited for Madrigal!
YES
HEY! I like this kid. Let’s go!!!
YYYEEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The leadoff man on your World Series Champions…Nick Madrigal!
Just noticed he was listed as a shortstop…
Wait, is that former MLB first baseman Carlos Pena hosting the MLB Network broadcast?
Did anyone hear if they announced him as a SS or 2B?
SS
Makes sense. For now.
Jim, that anagram, tho.
So what level are they going to start him at?
Low-A, I’d wager, just to get him acclimated to pro ball.
Did Collins and Burger both skip Great Falls?
Collins did. A week or so in AZL for a shakedown then straight to W-S. After a long NCAA season, he didn’t show up on any squad til pretty late as I recall.
EDIT: You’re 2-for-2. Per B Ref, Burger got a quick look at the AZL, then off to Kanny.
They spent 3 and 4 games in Arizona respectively. Collins was sent to Winston-Salem (advanced college bat, yo!) and Burger went to Kanny. I’d say Madrigal would be tabbed for Kanny, though that would probably mean Laz Rivera gets a bump to A+ (which he’s earned to this point). It wouldn’t surprise me, however, if they decide to give Madrigal the aggressive assignment.
I’m guessing Singer to the Reds.
…and I guessed wrong. Surprised they didn’t take a top pitcher.
Longenhagen on Madrigal, just now: “I love him, everything about him. Speed, glove, bat, think he’s gonna hit for some power.”

Great pick, love it
Those late mocks with Singer sliding have something. The Reds took India.
That last minute mock is 5 for 5 so far
Cool, Jarred Kelenic to the Mets. Hope he’s with the Cyclones before too long so I can go down to Coney Island to see him play.
Kelenic, there goes the perfect streak
Weathers before Liberatore? Didn’t expect that.
Same. I wish we could trade for draft picks.
Competitive balance picks can be traded, and I do wish the White Sox had been able to (not sure they even tried).
Yeah, I can only assume they have big plans for the second round.
Weathers must have been the HS Pitcher with the lowest bonus demands.
