Breaking News: Thome went to the Dodgers, while Jose Contreras was sent to the Rockies. Two class guys now gone.

Minor league roundup:

  • Birmingham 2, Huntsville 1 (Game 1, 7 innings)
    • Jordan Danks went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. He struck out once.
    • Christian Marrero was perfect at the plate, with a single, double and walk. He was caught stealing, though.
    • Dayan Viciedo went 1-for-2; C.J. Retherford went 1-for-3 with a strikeout.
    • John Ely improved to 13-2 with five solid innings. He allowed one run on five hits and two walks, striking out four. He did need 85 pitches, though.
    • Justin Cassel and Clevelan Santeliz each tossed a scoreless inning.
  • Birmingham 3, Huntsville 2 (Game 2, 8 innings)
    • Nice nightcap for Viciedo, who hit his 11th homer and also drew a walk.
    • Danks went 1-for-4; Retherford went hitless.
  • Greensboro 4, Kannapolis 2
    • Charles Leesman struggled after five shutout innings, finishing with: 6 2/3 IP, 13 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HR.
    • Jon Gilmore hit a run-scoring double but struck out twice. Kanny hitters struck out 14 times overall.
  • Bristol 3, Elizabethton 1
    • Miguel Gonzalez went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
    • Brady Shoemaker went 1-for-2 with three walks.
    • Andre Rienzo pitched six scoreless innings, striking out seven to just five hits and two walks.
    • Jeffer Patino, Misael Tavarez and Shaydon Buckridge each had two hits.
