First impressions: Brent Morel

Before Wednesday night, the only time I saw Brent Morel play a full game was in the Arizona Fall League championship game.  That day, he didn’t get one ball hit in his direction. The hot corner wasn’t that hot in Syracuse, either.  He had precisely two chances — a chopper that went over his head, [...]

Pregame show and tell

SNY.tv, the website of the New York cable sports station, peppered me with White Sox questions leading up to the series with the Yankees beginning tonight. Want proof? Here’s the video: ************************* Ozzie Guillen is a liar. Look at tonight’s lineup: Juan Pierre is playing. At least he’s only batting ninth. Carlos Quentin is also [...]

‘It’s Black and White’ unveiled

Above is the first ad in the White Sox’s 2010 marketing campaign, “It’s Black and White.” So far, it’s not as bad as I feared. On the other hand, I snagged a copy of an alternate version of this ad, and I like this one a little better:

A tricked-out treat

I’m no fan of Halloween, but the guys at Oral Sox managed to make it something worthwhile with their newest installment of “The Offseason.” Awesome, awesome work guys.

Not-so-random prospect video

Larry profiled some of the low-level minor leaguers who are off the radar but worth keeping an eye on, which, in turn, reminded me that I never processed the video I shot of Nevin Griffith. So, here’s video of Nevin Griffith (and here’s the brief scouting report from last month): ******************************** Friday’s minor league roundup: [...]

Rios + Pena = Subtraction by addition

Two questions with (crappy) video after the least satisfying victory of the season: No. 1: How could you, Alex Rios? Rios actually had an above-average day at the plate, collecting a flare single and an ugly sac bunt to raise his average in a White Sox uniform to .157, but he completely obliterated the tatters [...]

Minor league field trip: Wrapping up

Of the several hundred photos I took over the last week, this one ranks as my favorite: It’s another way of saying that I’m completely caught up with photo galleries over the final four days of the trip. Direct links: Day 3: Birmingham vs. Carolina Day 4: Jake Peavy-mania Day 5: Daniel Hudson-mania Day 6: [...]

First impression: Dan Hudson

Through his first two innings on Friday night, I figured I would see how Daniel Hudson ended up with his unimpressive line in his Triple-A debut on Sunday (4 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K). He fell behind hitters, and couldn’t really come back with anything besides his fastball. And then he [...]

First impression: Jake Peavy

Here’s Jake Peavy’s second inning in Charlotte on Thursday night: Sorry, don’t have time for much else.

First impression: Jared Mitchell

After watching Jared Mitchell in action for the first time since joining the White Sox organization, one word comes to mind: Patience. If I put together all the footage I had of Mitchell for the video below, 90 percent of the experience would be watching him take pitches.  He struck out on a check swing, [...]
