I’ve been trying to work out how the white sox are so decidedly un-clutch, while the twins are so decidedly clutch. I don’t know if the facts support these views, but they’re there just the same. A thought that crossed my mind to explain the seemingly high amount of baserunners left stranded by the white sox lately was that they had poor lineup construction, but I’m not sold on that being the case (especially when guys like Konerko, easily the best hitter on the team, are the ones doing the stranding).

So what is it? The bad baserunning, the sac bunts, the wrong approach at the plate with runners on base, what?

I mentioned earlier about Vizquel’s and Kotsay’s polite approach the last few games dealing with catchers blocking the plate. Somebody needs to bulletin the Sox that the Lady Byng is not an mlb award.

With the fireworks at the plate lately (Delmon Young, Nyjer Morgan), it was noticeable that the more docile Sox (Omar twice in Boston, Kotsay in Detroit) are, shall we say, easier for opposing catchers to work with. Martinez blocked Vizquel twice, making it look like Omar had resigned himself to ending his slide, on both occasions, a couple of feet from the plate. Meanwhile, Monday, it looked as if Kotsay thought Avila’s foot was the target.

Was good to see Sergio settle down and have a pretty solid outing last night. Also, I believe Pena was credited with the win and Santos got the hold.
