Something nice:  He's been the kind of cheap, reliable, no-frills righty the Sox had been seeking since January.  He's not Mr. High Leverage by any means, but he can be trusted otherwise, and he didn't cost anything.

Must improve:  Stuff.  He was injured earlier in the year, and it seems like he's still trying to find that extra couple miles per hour on his fastball.  At least it has a decent amount of movement.

Highlights

June 20
Riske accomplishes what Sean Tracey wouldn't/couldn't when he plunks Chris Duncan in retaliation for two Sidney Ponson HBPs.  Riske is thrown out and suspended for three games, but he won over his new teammates and fans with the gesture.

June 24

Facing his first real test with the White Sox, Riske throws 1 2/3 innings of scoreless, uneventful relief in a tie, extra-inning game before handing the ball to Matt Thornton.

Lowlights

July 8
Desperately needing a scoreless inning out of the bullpen, the Sox instead see a Riske who's all over the place.  He walks two and allows a run to score, and the relievers can't plug the leak.

Grades

Arm: B (so far)
He can get some hitters out.  That's about all we know.

Head: B (so far)
He hasn't done anything stupid yet.  That's about all we know.

Awards

Fireman of the Week, June 18-24
