Nick Magic fun fact
I was working on a Nick Masset retrospective earlier today, and I wanted to see how bad his WHIPs compared to the rest of relievers who worked as much as Masset in the American League.
A little background first: Way back
when David Aardsma was traded, I questioned why the Sox sent him packing while keeping Masset around. I wasn't upset about it, but it confused me a little, considering Aardsma's higher ceiling and periods of dominance.
Knowing that, I was amused when I searched on Play Index for the highest WHIPs for relievers who worked at least 39 innings in 2007, and 44 innings, and here's what it looks like:
2007:
- Shawn Camp: 2.025
- Nick Masset: 1.983
- Mike MacDougal: 1.961
2008: - Mark Lowe: 1.759
- David Aardsma: 1.726
- Nick Masset: 1.701
I'm glad I didn't get too worked up about it.
