Konerko back, Ozuna DFA'd

The press release:

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have returned Paul Konerko from his injury rehabilitation assignment to Class AAA Charlotte and have reinstated the first baseman from the 15-day disabled list. To make on the 25-man roster for Konerko, the White Sox designated infielder Pablo Ozuna for assignment.

And Joe Cowley is shocked:

It was no surprise that the club reinstated Paul Konerko from the 15-day disabled list prior to the start of the series with Kansas City, but the decision to make Ozuna the odd-man out seemed, well, a bit odd.

Ozuna brings more consistency to the plate than Uribe, is a better pinch-hitter and pinch-runner, plus can play all three infield spots, as well as act as an emergency outfielder if need be. He was hitting .391 against left-handers this season, as well as .353 in the month of June.

Uribe was hitting .206 this season with an oh-so-lovely .258 on-base percentage.

Maybe by reporting it early, he thought it wouldn't happen.

At any rate, Ozuna is the team's third-best pinch runner, as he's 0-for-2 stealing bases this year and was thrown out by a laughably large margin the last time.  He's also 0-for-3 as a pinch hitter and 0-for-6 over the last two and a half seasons.  Uribe has as many pinch hits this season (three) as Ozuna does since 2005.

Uribe can also play all three(?) infield positions far better than Ozuna.  It's true he can't play the outfield, but with Nick Swisher, Brian Anderson, Dewayne Wise and Alexei Ramirez, I'm not sure how many more backup left fielders the team needs.

I hate to see Pablo go because of his attitude, his heart, and his hustle. However, it was the right decison, given the current make-up of the roster. Good luck, Pablo!

Joe Cowley - the man who'd seen the Moon landing and then reported it 12 hours later as stunning.

Wise can run, so can Owens; does Cowley really cover baseball as his life?

OK, I have an indelicate question to ask the experts out there. I don't live in Chicago anymore and Mrs. Fundman needs an introduction to the Cell, which I'm planning for the Sunday day game with the Royals next weekend. StubHub or scalp outside of the Cell? What's the market like now? I throw myself on the collective wisdom of Jim's fans. Thanks a ton in advance.

Never did Stubhub, but I bet they're expensive.

There'e plenty of guys scalping by the El tracks, also check the white Sox website for Hot Tickets...there's always something available and it's not overly priced....

Alexei is replacing Q as the resident stud.

There are sometimes deals to be found on Stubhub, but I'm not sure about a Sunday day game. Also, whatever price you find, you have to factor in like a 15 percent commission fee. Craigslist might be worth checking as well.

No idea what the street market is like.

One of my all-time favorite Ozzie quotes about some of the players disappointed Ozuna getting released:
"If some players didn't like the move, well it's easy to do, just tell Ozuna to stay here and [they can] go to the minor leagues [in his place]."

Scalping is a little risky as I haven't seen much being done in the four games I've been to this year. I would stick with Stubhub.

Being from CT, I used StubHub for 2 games last weekend. Very expensive. I could have bought tickets from sellers at the El stop. Also, if you don't know the ballpark intimately, you need to be a little careful. In the first game, I thought the StubHub seller understated how good the seats were (Section 330 is basically your own private balcony). In the second game, I thought the seller overstated how good the seats were (In Section 152, Row 1 is NOT the first row, even though he claimed that it was).
