Minor league roundup for Friday

  • Charlotte 7, Norfolk 0
    • Jack Egbert struck out nine over seven shutout innings in his finest start this year.  He scattered five hits, didn't walk anybody and got twice as many groundouts (8) as flyouts.
    • Dave Cook went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in his second game in Charlotte.  I missed his promotion yesterday.
    • Brad Eldred hit his 22nd homer, a two-run shot; Chris Getz went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
    • Jerry Owens and Josh Fields each went 1-for-5; Owens was caught stealing for the 10th time.
  • Carolina 5, Birmingham 2
    • Dewon Day was demoted, and he allowed two runs over two innings in his "start."
    • Ryan O'Malley pitched five shutout innings in relief, but Fernando Hernandez allowed three runs in his inning of work to take the loss.
    • Victor Mercedes went 2-for-4 with a double; Javier Castillo had the Barons' lone RBI.
  • Wilmington 3, Winston-Salem 1
    • The Warthogs were held to three hits; Brandon Allen had the lone RBI.
    • Clevelan Santeliz took the loss by allowing one run on five hits over three innings in a bullpen game.
  • Kannapolis 5, Lexington 2
    • Sergio Morales went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and three runs scored.
    • Jim Gallagher hit a two-run homer, his fifth of the year.  He's slugging .596 in June.
    • Levi Maxwell allowed two runs over six innings, which raised his ERA to 1.70.
    • Leroy Hunt (1 IP) and Henry Mabee (2 IP) held Lexington scoreless the rest of the way.

Jerry Owens blows. If he can't steal bases at a 80% clip, he has zero value.
