Cable tied

The one good thing about the ceremonial day off after the Opening Day ceremonies is that it's great to cleanse the pallet.  Yesterday's thrashing almost seems like a practice game, and for the Sox's sake and ours, I hope that's what it was.

At any rate, a couple more items of business before the season really gets going:

Depends on how you look at it, Major League Baseball, DirecTV and iN Demand are close to sealing a deal that will bring Extra Innings back to cable...

...or, DirecTV is intentionally stalling while not budging during negotiation so fan furor fizzles and the satellite service can enjoy the exclusive arrangement with MLB as originally planned.

It's driving me nuts, because I tried MLB.tv for the first time during Opening Day, and it doesn't compare.  So when I hear iN Demand say that it can have its service ready in an hour, it makes me drool worse than Pavlov's dog.

The only positive is that I've signed up for only one month of MLB.tv, which should carry me through all the April day games without missing much action.  At the very least, I can skip through it and see the sequences I need.  But if I'm stuck watching MLB.tv all summer long, I'm going to be one sad panda.

Attention RSSers:  If you've bookmarked State of the Sox or subscribe to its RSS feed, I'm making some changes that will affect you.

In order to keep seasons separate when searching through the archives, I created a new blog for the 2007 edition of State of the Sox.  At first, I switched the names and gave the new blog the old directory so it wouldn't affect bookmarks and links, but I then realized it would screw up every past game reference I've made, of which there are likely several hundred.

So, here's what it looks like now:

  • 2006 season:  http://soxmachine.com/blogs/state_of_the_sox
Sorry for any inconvenience.
