So I'm watching Field of Dreams for the 130 billionth time on AMC, and as it cuts to a commercial break, the graphic says, "If you're enjoying
Field of Dreams... Tune in for
Waterworld Wednesday night." Which makes sense, because my favorite part of Field of Dreams is when Ray Kinsella drinks filtered urine.
Anyway, since it's a slow weekend for the Sox and a busy weekend here,
one note of interest:
The Cardinals entered the second phase of their search for a successor to Walt Jocketty, with Chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. and President Mark Lamping meeting with Chicago White Sox assistant general manager Rick Hahn in Jupiter, Fla., Friday.
Club sources confirmed Friday's meeting with Hahn while DeWitt acknowledged only that the club was intensifying its search. Friday's interview is one of "four or five" face-to-face meetings he and Lamping hope to conduct before determining the club's next general manager. DeWitt says he hopes to announce his choice before the World Series begins Oct. 24.
Hahn is one of the only candidates not affected by the organization shakeup several months ago, since he seems to have unique tasks -- namely 1) handling contracts and 2) handling statistical analysis. Although it seems that Williams (and/or Jerry Reinsdorf) doesn't think much of age-regression analysis, based on the contracts awarded to Jermaine Dye, A.J. Pierzynski, etc.
He isn't a slam-dunk fit by any means, and he won't be the highest-profile candidate either, if Cleveland assistant GM Chris Antonetti is involved. Antonetti
was previously considered for Boston's GM spot when Theo Epstein took his ball and went home during the 2005-06 offseason.
