Scott Schoeneweis, White Sox deserve refund
Congratulations to Scott Schoeneweis, who became the second former White Sox
with official ties to steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. His name was the latest released in connection with Signature Pharmacy, the Orlando-based operation currently under investigation by my county's district attorney:
Scott Schoeneweis, the veteran New York Mets reliever and a survivor of testiticular cancer, received six steroid shipments from Signature Pharmacy while playing for the Chicago White Sox in 2003 and 2004, ESPN has learned.
According to a source in Florida close to the ongoing investigation of Signature, Schoeneweis' name appears on packages that were sent to Comiskey Park while the White Sox were battling to win the AL Central title in 2003. Two more shipments arrived at the stadium in 2004, months before Schoeneweis underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow.
That move just keeps paying dividends for the Sox. Schoeneweis, in case you blacked it out, was famous for two things:
No. 1: Being a key player in Fifth Starter Hell.
No. 2: Complaining to the press when he was shifted to the bullpen. saying that he'd would be "looking to pitch somewhere else" if Ozzie Guillen didn't put him back in the rotation.
Remember this gem:
"It's just a situation I've been involved in before and it's something that, in this case, I wouldn't really understand, even more so than last time, why it would be me," Schoeneweis said. I don't think I have pitched any worse than anybody else. I don't think I've pitched any better than anybody else."
To which Ozzie replied:
"Schony is always upset; he always has something to bitch about."
After that incident, he finished the season by
allowing 27 runs over his last 24 innings pitched -- including five starts.
