July 17: Indians 6, White Sox 5 (11 innings)

Bobby Jenks blew a two-run lead.  See the Orioles game from Saturday, with the following exceptions:
  • Charlie Haeger provided a one-man bridge from Jon Garland to Bobby Jenks.
  • Jermaine Dye helped him by throwing out a runner at the plate to end the eighth.  I can't remember the last time that happened -- it was an easy throw for a right fielder, and he actually made it.
  • A.J. Pierzynski added an insurance run in the ninth by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
  • Dewon Day gave up the winning run in the 11th instead of the 10th.
Other than that, the spirit of the game is just about the same.

Record: 41-51 | Box score | Play-by-play

The Sox are getting too painful to watch. It looks like they want to win so bad, they can't execute and run out of gas every game. They show a lack of confidence at the plate and on the mound. Jenks looked stronger until the first line shot back through the box, and it was back to his looking away, twitching, wiping, lower velocity and falling behind in the count. SI had the Sox pegged right before the start of the season as a 4th place team compared to their rivals, and it looks like the spring-training exercise of sorting through the "talent" will continue to the end of the season.
