Alexei Ramirez

ESSENTIALS
10 THINGS I KNOW ABOUT ALEXEI RAMIREZ
  1. He's spindly.
  2. He's aggressive with first-pitch fastballs.
  3. He has a very whippy swing.
  4. He runs well.
  5. He has gap power.
  6. Sliders don't seem to faze him.
  7. Curveballs and changeups seem to, a little.
  8. He plays a decent shortstop.
  9. He looks a little rougher around second.
  10. He looks roughest in center thus far.
2008 OUTLOOK

It'll be a good season if...

...Ramirez doesn't collapse and stays healthy.  I don't think we can expect anything more, considering Cuban League baseball is supposed to be roughly equivalent to low minors, Double-A at the most generous.  That's not saying he couldn't exceed higher standards, but he wasn't supposed to be in the majors this soon.  The rest will be up to Ozzie Guillen and his staff.

If he does stick, I'd hope for an OBP of .310 and something like a .400 slugging percentage.  Nothing remarkable.

So halfway home, and he's really close to the highly optimistic PECOTA projection with waaaaay more power than anybody would have thought. Still doesn't walk enough, but all things considered I'm thrilled thus far. Rookie of the Year? Why hasn't he been mentioned outside of Sox circles thus far?
